SABBATICAL LEAVE OF ABSENCE. 1 9 6 6 - 6 7 , URBANA (2) With the approval of the University Research Board and concurrence of the Executive Vice-President and Provost, I recommend that W e n L. Chow, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, be granted sabbatical leave of absence for the second semester of the academic year 1966-67 on full pay to continue to do research within the area of hypersonic rarefied gas dynamics, in particular to study the flow phenomenon within the "transitional flow" regimes, the study to be done at the Institute of Aerospace Studies at the University of Toronto.

On motion of Mr. Williamson, this leave was granted as recommended.

APPOINTMENTS TO THE FACULTY (3) The following new appointments to the faculty of the rank of Assistant Professor and above, and involving tenure, have been approved since the previous meeting of the Board of Trustees. Positions in the University are classified in the following categories and are designated in the budget by the symbols indicated: A — indefinite tenure; B — two years; D — one year; E — nine months from the beginning of the academic year; G—special tenure; Y — twelve months' service required instead of two semesters. Figures following a symbol indicate percentage of time if the appointment is on a part-time basis (e.g., D75 means one year on three-fourths time). 1. RICHARD L. CARLIN, Associate Professor of Chemistry, Chicago Circle, beginning September 1, 1967, at an annual salary of $13,000 ( A ) . 2. DOUGLAS L. FOSTER, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, College of Medicine, on three-fourths time, beginning April 1, 1967, at an annual salary of $12,000 (DY75). 3. FRANKLIN P .
