Board and stipulating that only a single teaching field is necessary for certification, will eliminate the second teaching field, the teaching minor, and add sixteen semester hours of general education elective. The undergraduate curriculum in Health Education will be revised to offer junior and senior students an option in either School Health Education or Community Health Education. The options, designed to provide greater specialization and to place greater emphasis on the behavioral sciences, lead to the same degree, Bachelor of Science in Health Education. The proposal has been approved by the University and Urbana-Champaign Councils on Teacher Education and the UrbanaChampaign Senate Committee on Educational Policy. College of Education To improve the preparation of teachers to meet public school needs, the three options in Industrial Education will be replaced by one flexible curriculum. The curriculum, Technical Education Specialties, will meet teacher certification requirements for specialties within the broad area of Vocational and Technical Education, while providing each specialist with a general background in those physical, biological, natural, or mathematical sciences upon which the specialty is predicated. This increased flexibility is made necessary by the increasingly diverse offerings in the public secondary schools and post-secondary schools and by the increased reliance upon science among new and emerging occupations. This revision has been approved by the University and Urbana-Champaign Councils on Teacher Education and the Urbana-Champaign Senate Committee on Educational Policy. The Senate Coordinating Council has indicated that no other Senate jurisdiction is involved in these proposals. A detailed description of the revisions in these curricula is being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record. All of these changes will become effective as soon as they can be implemented by the departments concerned. O n m o t i o n of M r .
