T h e total of $2,225,000 requested would provide funds for (a) the administrative reorganization of the College of Medicine; (b) partial funding of the training now done in affiliated hospitals, mainly through the staff salaries indicated for Schools B and C; (c) the establishment of clinical centers in Peoria and Rockford; (d) the expansion of resources at the Medical Center campus for an improved program of continuing education for physicians (especially in the designated clinical centers, but also in other regions of the State).' 2. Graduate School of Public Health ($308,000). Recommendations 33, 34, and 35 of the Report on Education in the Health Fields propose that the University of 1 Prior to the formal establishment of Schools D, E, F, G, and H, "clinical training centers" would be developed in the respective regional locations — offering internship-residency programs and continuing education for practicing physicians. ' The timing and the sequence of the development of the regional clinical centers and schools are matters to be reviewed with the Health Education Commission of the Board of Higher Education when that advisory body has been constituted. Particularly as regards Schools F\ G, and H, the choice of locations and the order of development are contingent upon many conditions that remain to be studied intensively. Furthermore, consideration will be given to the QuadCities area as the location of an additional center and school, with its position in the time sequence to be determined in the light of all relevant circumstances. * Although the proposed level of funding of teaching activities in the affiliated hospitals is below that recommenaed in the Report on Education in the Health Fields, it is believed that the amounts suggested in Table VII will be satisfactory as interim compensation. Further careful study and negotiation during 1969-71 should lead to equitable long-term arrangements.
