PRESIDENT'S REPORT Copies of the President's report on selected topics of current interest were distributed at the meeting, and a copy was filed with the Secretary of the Board. AWARD OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT CERTIFICATES (1) T h e Committee on Accountancy recommends that the certificate of Certified Public Accountant be awarded, under Section 5 of the Illinois Accountancy Act of 1943, as amended, to the following candidates who have presented evidence that they are holders of valid and unrevoked Certified Public Accountant certificates obtained by passing a standard written examination in another state or territory of the United States and who qualify in all other respects under this provision of the law: Name W I L L I A M JOHN ECKERT DONALD BURTON GOLDSMITH Address O'Fallon, Illinois Palatine, Illinois State from Which They Obtained Certificates Missouri Washington FRED O. DEANSH1P OF T H E GRADUATE COLLEGE, MEDICAL CENTER (2) T h e Chancellor at the Medical Center has recommended the appointment of Dr. Stephen B. Binkley, presently Professor of Biological Chemistry and Head of the Department in the College of Medicine, as Dean of the Graduate College at the Medical Center, beginning September 1, 1969, on a twelve-month service basis, at an annual salary of $32,500. In addition, Dr. Binkley will continue to hold his appointment as Professor of Biological Chemistry on indefinite tenure. T h e appointment of Dr. Binkley will fill the vacancy in the Graduate College at the Medical Center created by the reorganization of the Graduate College which became effective September 1, 1968. Currently the position is filled by Dr. Milan V. Novak, who has served since September 1, 1968, as Acting Dean. This recommendation is made with the advice of a faculty consultative committee 1 and follows consultation with the Executive Committee of the Graduate College at the Medical Center. The Executive Vice President and Provost endorses this recommendation. I recommend approval. On motion of Mr. Clement, this appointment was approved. HEADSHIP OF THE DEPARTMENT O F LINGUISTICS. URBANA (3) T h e Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Urbana, has recommended the appointment of Dr. Braj B. Kachru, presently Associate Professor of Linguistics, as Associate Professor of Linguistics on indefinite tenure and Head of the Department of Linguistics, Urbana, beginning September 1, 1969, on an academic year service basis, at an annual salary of $15,200. Professor Kachru will succeed Professor Robert B. Lees who has resigned as Head of the Department effective September 1, 1969. 1 Stephen B.
