HEADSHIP OF THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY, CHICAGO CIRCLE (6) T h e Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the Chicago Circle campus has recommended to the Chancellor the appointment of David B. Carpenter, presently Professor of Sociology, Washington University, as P r o fessor of Sociology, on indefinite tenure, and Head of the Department, beginning September 1, 1972, on an academic year service basis, at an annual salary of $29,000. Dr. Carpenter will replace Professor Robert Hall who resigned from this administrative position on August 31, 1971. Professor Roger W . Little is presently Acting Head of the Department. T h e nomination of Professor Carpenter is supported by the Consultative Committee 1 for the Headship of the Department and by the faculty of the Department of Sociology. T h e Chancellor at Chicago Circle, the Vice Chancellor and Dean of Faculties, and the Dean of the Graduate College approve the recommendation. T h e Executive Vice President and Provost concurs. I recommend approval. O n m o t i o n of M r . H a r m , t h i s a p p o i n t m e n t w a s a p p r o v e d . CHAIRMANSHIP OF T H E DEPARTMENT O F PHILOSOPHY. CHICAGO CIRCLE (7) T h e Dean of the College of Liberal A r t s and Sciences at the Chicago Circle campus has recommended to the Chancellor the appointment of Myles Brand, presently Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Assistant Chairman of the Department at the University of Pittsburgh, as Associate Professor of Philosophy, on indefinite tenure, and Chairman of the Department, beginning September 1, 1972, on an academic year service basis, at an annual salary of $23,000.
