It was necessary to place these orders immediately in order to have the work completed and the equipment delivered in time for the beginning of the training program on August 10. These purchases and remodeling work have been charged temporarily against the State appropriation for building remodeling. The University will be reimbursed for these expenses by the United States Navy.

On motion of Mr. Adams, the President's authorization of these contracts and purchases was approved.

PURCHASE OF LABORATORY G L A S S W A R E

(12) A recommendation that the following purchase be authorized: 214 cases of P y r e x laboratory glassware from Wilkens-Anderson Company, Chicago, at a total cost of approximately $3,300. O n m o t i o n of M r . J e n s e n , t h i s p u r c h a s e w a s a u t h o r i z e d . PURCHASES AUTHORIZED (13) A report of the following purchases authorized by the President of the University in accordance with the University Statutes: 148 cases of Corning P y r e x glassware, plus extras and broken case lots, from E. H. Sargent & Company, at a total cost of $2,495.79. This glassware is for the Chicago General Stores, Hospital Laboratory, and Department of Physiological Chemistry in the College of Medicine. 16,500 board feet of lumber, consisting of red oak, white pine, birch, and redwood, for the Physical Plant stock, from the White Pine Lumber Company, the lowest bidder, at a total cost of $2,450.70 f.o.b. Urbana. Temperature control for ventilating system in classroom and laboratory space in the Stadium for use of Navy Diesel School, from the Powers Regulator Company, the lowest bidder, at a cost of $1,590 installed.

On motion of Mr. Cleary, the authorization of these purchases was approved.

ASSIGNMENT OF KNIPP PATENT (14) The Secretary of the Board reports that he has received the assignment of Charles T. Knipp, transferring to the Board of Trustees the entire right, title to, and interest in, his application for U. S. Letters Patent, Serial No. 295,193, covering improvements in the cold cathode rectifier. T h e assignment was received and recorded in the Patent Office July 20, 1942, in Liber E 192, page 574. T h i s report w a s received for record.
