C O N T I N U A T I O N IN SERVICE OF PROFESSOR A. R. CRATHORNE

(6) Professor A. R. Crathorne, of the Department of Mathematics, who has reached the age of 68 and is due to retire on September I, 1942, under the University Retirement System of Illinois, has requested that he be continued in active service for one year from September I, 1942. The law provides that "upon the written request of the employee and upon certification of the employer, in exceptional cases and for substantial cause, such retirement shall be deferred for a period not to exceed one year at any one time." Because of the absence of other members of the staff in military and other war services the Department needs the services of Professor Crathorne, and I recommend approval of his request. O n motion of M r s . Grigsby, this recommendation was approved.

ADJUSTMENTS IN BUDGET OF COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE DUE TO INCREASED ALLOTMENT OF FEDERAL FUNDS

(7) When the original budget of the College of Agriculture for the year 19421043 was prepared, certain Federal funds received by the University for extension work were budgeted on the basis of a reduction of $6,783.63 under the amount received in 1941-1942. This was done on advice from the Director of Extension work in Washington, D. C, that such a reduction was probable. However, the agricultural appropriation bill as approved provided for an allotment of only $126.77 less than the allotment for 1941-1942. Accordingly, the Director of the Extension Service, requests that the amount of $6,657.13 be appropriated to the College of Agriculture for extension work. This amount represents the additional funds to be received by the College of Agriculture for extension work and will be used for general departmental expense in connection with such work. I recommend approval. O n motion of M r . Davis, these adjustments were approved by the following vote: Aye, M r . Adams, M r . Cleary, M r . Davis, Mr. Fornof, M r s . Grigsby, M r . Jensen, D r . M e y e r ; no, n o n e ; absent, Mr. Green, M r . K a r r a k e r , Mr. Livingston, M r . Wieland.
