C O N V E Y A N C E O F S P A R T A S O I L E X P E R I M E N T FIELD (9) On July 1, 1915, Thomas G. Dean and wife, of Sparta, Illinois, conveyed to the University a twenty-acre tract of land in Randolph County, Illinois, for the purposes of agricultural experimentation and demonstration. The deed, for which no consideration was paid by the University, specified that it was given with the agreement and understanding that if the University of Illinois discontinues using the land for said purposes for a period of more than two consecutive years the University shall, when requested, convey by proper deed to the Sparta Township High School, the east half of the described real estate, and convey by proper deed to the original purchasers of the sixty-four lots of the Thomas G. Dean Addition to the City of Sparta, Illinois, the west half of said tract. T h e University has discontinued using this land for experimental purposes, and on May 29, 1958, the Board of Trustees authorized the execution of a quit claim deed conveying the east half of the tract to the County Board of School Trustees of Randolph County, Illinois, or their successors in office, for the use of Sparta Township High School District No. i l l of Randolph County. No request for authority to convey the west half of the tract was submitted to the Board of Trustees at that time because the language in the deed by which it was conveyed to the University raises difficult legal questions as to who is entitled to it. Some of the original purchasers of the lots referred to in the deed from the Deans are still living, a number are dead, and others have left Randolph County, and it
