CONTRACTS FOR MINOR BUILDING ALTERATIONS AND REPAIRS (31) In anticipation of a large volume of minor building alteration work during 1950-60, more than can be undertaken by University mechanics but most of which work would not justify the cost of preparing separate drawings and specifications and the expense of separate bidding procedures, the Physical Plant Department proposes renewing a former practice of securing bids from contractors in the various divisions of work based on net cost, plus an added percentage of material and labor costs for overhead and commission, the percentages varying with the amount of work to be done. The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend awards of cost-plus contracts for the fiscal year ending June 30, i960, as follows, the award in each case being to the lowest bidder: General work — Oran L. Shoemaker and Company, Champaign Electrical work — Brunkow Electric Company, Champaign Plumbing work — David W . Reichard Plumbing and Heating, Urbana Heating, piping, refrigeration, and automatic temperature control systems — Reliable Plumbing and Heating Company, Champaign Ventilating and sheet metal work — Schroeder and Sons Company, Champaign A schedule of bids taken on the basis of such procedure showing the percentages to be added for work to be executed under cost-plus percentage contracts is attached, and a copy of this schedule is filed with the Secretary of the Board for record as the basis for the contract awards recommended.
