MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

OF THE

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS

January 20, 1959

The January meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held in the LaSalle Hotel, Chicago, Illinois, on Tuesday, January 20, 1959, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The following members of the Board were present: Mrs. Doris S. Holt, Mr. Earl M. Hughes, Mr. Wayne A. Johnston, Mr. Park Livingston, Mr. Timothy W. Swain, Mrs. Frances B. Watkins, Mr. George T. Wilkins, Mr. Kenney E. Williamson. Mr. Cushman B. Bissell, Mr. Wirt Herrick, and Governor William G. Stratton were absent. Also present were President David D. Henry, Vice-President and Provost Gordon N. Ray, Dr. H. E. Longenecker, Vice-President in charge of the Chicago Professional Colleges, Executive Dean C. C. Caveny of the Chicago Undergraduate Division, Director C. S. Havens of the Physical Plant Department, Mr. C. E. Flynn, Director of Public Information, Mr. William H. Rice, Administrative Assistant in the President's Office; and the officers of the Board, Mr. H. O. Farber, Comptroller, Mr. C. W. Weldon, Treasurer, and Mr. A. J. Janata, Secretary. Mr. Howard W. Clement, Mr. Richard A. Harewood, and Mr. Harold Pogue, Trustees-elect, and Dr. Lyle H. Lanier, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, also attended the meeting as guests of the Board. Preceding its meeting the Board had luncheon during which President Park Livingston introduced the new Trustee, Mr. George T. Wilkins, and the three Trustees-elect who will take office on March 10, 1959. At the conclusion of the luncheon President Henry presented Dr. Lyle H. Lanier, the new Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, who spoke briefly on the state of the College. 269
