T h e salary for this position will be determined when the budget for 1960-61 is submitted to the Board for approval. The nomination of Dean Lanier has the unanimous and enthusiastic support of a consultative committee appointed to advise the President of the University on this matter. The Committee consulted many members of the faculty from whom its received suggestions as well as from other sources. The members discussed the nature of the post with those qualified to have informed reactions and tested the names proposed against this analysis and in many interviews which they held. The University is fortunate to have someone on its staff immediately available to succeed Vice-President and Provost Gordon N.
