8. DOSEEN E. PARSONS, Assistant Network Manager (Traffic), National Association of Educational Broadcasters, beginning February I, i960, at an annual salary of $3,600. 9. CHARLES R. THOMAS, Computer Programmer I, Statistical Service Unit, beginning February 3, i960, at an annual salary of $6,000. 10. BERNARD J. WILLIAMS, Personnel Officer, Nonacademic Personnel Office, beginning March 1, i960, at an annual salary of $6,000.

On motion of Mr. Johnston, these appointments were confirmed.

APPOINTMENT OF ASSOCIATE DEAN OF THE GRADUATE COLLEGE (4) The Dean of the Graduate College recommends the appointment of Dr. Harold R. Snyder, Professor of Organic Chemistry and Associate Head of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, as Research Professor of Organic Chemistry on one-half time on indefinite tenure and Associate Dean of the Graduate College on one-half time for one year, beginning September 1, i960, at a total salary of $15,600. This is a new position which will be concerned with the work of the University Research Board and research coordination in the University, and particularly with matters relating to the rapidly expanding efforts in research at the University. The Head of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the Vice-President and Provost concur. I recommend approval.

On motion of Mr. Herrick, this appointment was approved.

SABBATICAL LEAVES OF ABSENCE, I9 60-61

(5) I recommend that the following members of the staff be given sabbatical leaves of absence during the academic year 1960-61 in accordance with the provisions of the University of Illinois Statutes and on the terms and for the period indicated. This is supplemental to the list of applications recommended to the Board of Trustees at the meeting on March 16, i960. College of E n g i n e e r i n g M. K. FAHNESTOCK, Research Professor of Mechanical Engineering (Engineering Experiment Station) and Chairman of the Physical Environment Unit in the Graduate College, second semester (six months from February 1, 1961), full pay; for visits to various laboratories doing research on atmospheric environment and to study their programs pertaining to relationships of atmospheric environment, people, agricultural animals and plants, and controlled environment for products and processes. The composite information to be secured will be used in further development of facilities and programs in the University's physical environment laboratories in which interdisciplinary research programs serving engineering, agriculture, physiology, psychology, and physical fitness are conducted. REINHOLD F. LARSON, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, second semester, full pay; for studies with nuclear engineering and chemical engineering groups at Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and studies of the programs of reactor techniques at Argonne and Oak Ridge National Laboratories and laboratories in foreign countries. College of F i n e a n d Applied A r t s VICTOR A. HYDE, Professor of Community Planning, first semester, full pay; for observation of programs and studies of policies in the field of government planning in European countries. K I N G KELLOGG, Associate Professor of Music, first semester, full pay; to study vocal literature in Europe as a basis for preparation of a guide for teaching of vocal literature.

On motion of Mrs. Watkins, these leaves were granted, as recommended.
