on this fund should be used. T h e estimated income will and it is the recommendation of the Department of Art to a scholarship in art to be • awarded biennially, thus $1,200. I concur in this recommendation.

On motion of Mrs. Plumb, this scholarship was authorized. The fact was brought out that the bequest was not limited to the use of the income alone, and that the foregoing action may be modified by the Board at its pleasure.

PURCHASES RECOMMENDED (27) A recommendation that the following purchases be authorized: 1. 240 Faries #1990 desk lamps for the cubicles in the Library addition, from the Hyland Electrical Supply Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, at a price of $1,377.60, f.o.b. Urbana. 2. Winding of two coils for cyclotron magnet for Department of Physics, from the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, at a price of $1,715. 3. 30,000 board feet, first grade maple flooring, for new floor in George Huff Gymnasium, from C. H . Scott Lumber Company, Kansas City, the lowest bidder, at a price of $2,008.50, f.o.b. Urbana. 4. One 1^2 ton dump truck and three pickup trucks for the Physical Plant Department to replace four old trucks (the mechanical condition of which does not justify further maintenance expense), from the Sullivan Chevrolet Company of Champaign, the lowest bidder, at a total cost of $2,873.70. 5. 25 student microscopes for the Dental Supply Room, from A. S. Aloe Company, at a price of $3,119. No bids were taken, as microscope prices are established by the manufacturers and are uniform, the maximum discount being 20 per cent on 25 or more instruments. 6. 55 sets dental operative instruments, 62 carvers, 130 spatulas, 120 plastic instruments, 170 mirror handles, 120 socket handles, 58 dentimeters, 58 sets files, 58 cleavers, and 96 straight edges, from the Fara Manufacturing Company, the lowest bidder, at a price of $2,979. 7. 50 No. L 460 E D dentoforms, 55 mink correlators, 50 sets size L stone model bases, 50 sets size X L stone model bases, 250 ivorine teeth, and 54 aluminal dentoforms, upper half jaw, from the Columbia Dentoform Corporation, at a price of $1,567.50. These are non-competitive items and are sold at established prices. 8. 58—% H . P . Type OS2 Baldor dental lathes, each with two chucks, from the Central Dental Manufacturing Company, the lowest bidder, at a price of $1,566. 9. 71 items of dental materials and supplies as per itemized list, a copy of which is being given to the Secretary of the Board for record: 37 items from the S. S. White Dental Manufacturing Company at a price of $3 614 74 34 items from the C. L. F r a m e Dental Manufacturing Company at a price of 2 462 77 Total $6 077 51 These orders are recommended on the basis of quotations received, each item being purchased from the company quoting the lowest price on that item. 10. 100 Dwts. Williams Technic Alloy No. 35 Coin Color 488 Dwts. Williams Forty-niner Gold in 8 dwt. packages 300 Dwts. Williams Special W 20 Inlay Gold from H . M. Dugan, Chicago, the local dealer for the Williams Company and the only source on this particular material, at a price of $1,274.42, f.o.b. delivered.

On motion of Mrs. Plumb, these purchases were authorized as recommended.
