HICKMAN, Class of 1929. Attorney at Law (Poppenhusen, Johnston, Thompson, and Raymond), 11 South LaSalle Street, Chicago. Played on Varsity Football squad in senior year. Colonel of the ROTC Brigade. Cited for high honors and superior scholarship all four undergraduate years. Won the Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford University in 1929. President of the Chicago Illini Club. O n motion of M r . Cleary, these directors were appointed, to serve tor one year from M a r c h 14, 1940, or until their successors may be appointed. T h e Executive Committee adjourned.

APPOINTMENTS MADE BY THE PRESIDENT T h e Secretary presented for record a list of appointments made by the President of the University. ACKERMANN", GERTRUDE WiLHELMiNE, to give instruction in Library Science. in the Summer Session of 1940, beginning June 17, 1940, and ending August 10, 1940, at a cash compensation of two hundred fifty dollars ($250) for the session. (March 13, 1940)1 ANEI.LIS, ABE, Special Research Assistant in Dairy Husbandry, in the Agricultural Experiment Station, on one-third time, beginning February I, 1940. and continuing through November 30, 1940, at a cash compensation at the rale of fifty dollars ($50) a month. (February 26, 1940)

BETTY, JAMES KELLOGG, Assistant in Operative Dentistry, in the College of

Dentistry, on %o time, for seven months beginning February I, 1940, at a cashr compensation at the rate of one thousand eighty-three dollars ($1,083) a v e a (this supersedes his previous appointment). (February 26, 1940)

BROWNE, ROBERT BELL, Director of University Extension, and Director of

the Summer Session, beginning February 16, 1040, and continuing through August 31, 1940, arid Assistant Professor of Education, beginning February 16, 1940, and continuing through August 31, 1941, at a cash compensation at the rate of five thousand seven hundred dollars ($5,700) a year (this supersedes his previous appointment).
