(c) F o r undergraduate work in the Colleges of Medicine and Dentistry: First-year and second-year courses, 25 cents per clock hour, plus regular laboratory fees in the courses for which the student registers; third-year and fourth-year courses, 20 cents per clock hour plus full laboratory fees and an additional 15 cents per clock hour for courses involving dispensary or infirmary fees. Non-Illinois students registered for partial programs pay one and onehalf times the above stated clock hour fees, except for dispensary and infirmary. ( d ) F o r graduate work at Urbana or Chicago: At the rate of $10.00 per unit, provided registration is for not more than two units.

On motion of Mrs. Plumb, the Statutes were amended as recommended.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO GRADUATE WORK IN CHEMISTRY (30) A recommendation from the Executive Faculty of the Graduate School that one year of college work in French or in German be required as a prerequisite for admission to the Graduate School with Chemistry as a major subject, effective with the beginning of the Summer Session of 1939. O n m o t i o n of M r . J e n s e n , t h i s r e c o m m e n d a t i o n w a s a d o p t e d . PURCHASES RECOMMENDED (31) A recommendation that the following purchases be authorized: 1. Automobile Fleet Insurance including the following coverage: Property Damage $5,000, Public Liability $25,000/50,000; comprising 53 passenger cars and 52 trucks—from H a r r y E. Wilcox, Champaign, agent for the Car and General Insurance Corporation, who submitted one of two low bids, at a premium of $1,07676. T h e other low bid was submitted by O. E. Seiler, an agent in Chicago who is with the same company. A local agent is in better position to render the necessary service in taking care of claims and adjustments, and it is not practicable to divide the insurance. 2. One LeBlond, 19" x 6', 12-speed Geared Head Engine Lathe with yl/2 H . P . Motor, from the R. K. LeBlond Machine Tool Company, the lowest bidder, at a price of $2,000. 3. One set of Celluloided Guide Cards for Union Card Catalog, consisting of from 40,000 to 60,000 guides, from Remington-Rand, Inc., Chicago, at $64.50 a thousand, f.o.b. Urbana, at a total cost not to exceed $3,870. This is a noncompetitive item.

On motion of Mr. Pogue, the fleet insurance was awarded to O. E. Seiler, and the other purchases were authorized as recommended.

PURCHASES AUTHORIZED (32) A report of the following purchases authorized by the President of the University in accordance With the University Statutes: 1. F o r the Office Supply Store and Extension Service in Agriculture and Home Economics: 600 Reams 25 x 38—60 lb. " A " Grade English Finish Book Paper 100 Reams 25 x 38—70 lb. "A" Grade English Finish Book Paper 200 Reams 24 x 36—45 lb. "A" Grade English Finish Book Paper from Dwight Bros. Paper Company, Chicago, whose revised quotation was lowest, at a price of $2,900 f.o.b. delivered. 2. T w o hundred 100-lb. kegs white lead, from the International Smelting and Refining Company, the lowest bidder, at a price of $1,497.62 f.o.b. Urbana.

On motion of Mr. Karraker, the action of the President of the University in authorizing these purchases was approved and confirmed.

COMMUNICATION FROM ILLINOIS TEMPERANCE C O U N C I L (33) A letter from the Illinois Temperance Council, a copy of which is hereby given to the Secretary of the Board for record, concerning conditions in the University community.
