This report w a s received for record. GIFTS TO THE UNIVERSITY (35) A report of the following gifts received by the University since the last report: 1. T h e John and Mary R. Markle Foundation, $7,000 for research work by Professor Ernst Gellhorn, of the College of Medicine, on the effect of metrazol in functional mental diseases. This is in addition to a grant of $10,000 given the University of Illinois for this project last year. 2. E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, Incorporated, $2,000 for the continuation of a fellowship in the Department of Chemistry which was established last year for the purpose of providing a research assistant for Professor C. S. Marvel, of that Department, for the period of February 1, 1939, to January 31, 1940. 3. E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, Incorporated, $2,000 for the continuation of a post-doctorate fellowship in Chemistry during the academic year 1939-1940. 4. M & R Dietetic Laboratories, Incorporated, $2,000 to the Department of Pediatrics of the College of Medicine for the continuation of work on "Factors Influencing the Utilization of Calcium and Phosphorus of Cow's Milk," to be conducted under the supervision of Dr. Julius H . Hess. 5. Associated Milk Dealers, $1,200 for further research on "Milk Hygiene." 6. American Council of Learned Societies, a grant-in-aid of $1,000 for the support of Professor Walter Graham's research work on the Secular Index. 7.
