REPORT OF DEATH BENEFITS PAID

(21) A report that the Comptroller has been authorized to pay the death benefits to the beneficiaries of the following members of the staff in accordance with the University Statutes and the terms of their employment: 1. James W . Garner, Professor and H e a d of the Department of Political Science—$3,000. Professor Garner was in the active service of the University from September 1, 1905, until his death on December g, 1938. 2. William B. Day, Dean of the College of Pharmacy—$3,000. Dean Day was in the active service of the University from May 1, 1896, until his death on December 10, 1938. 3. D. J. Killgore, retired employee in the Physical Plant Department— $266.50. Mr. Killgore was in the active service of the University from May 15, 1917, until his retirement on September I, 1933. H e died on November 24, 1938. 4. Marshall Faust, retired employee of the Physical Plant Department— $402. Mr. Faust was in the active service of the University from September 18, 1918, until his retirement in 1935. H e died on December 10, 1938. 5. E d w a r d H . Cameron, Professor of Education and Director of the Summer Session—$3,000. Professor Cameron was in the active service of the University from September 1, 1919, until his death on December 20, 1938. T h i s report w a s received for record. AGREEMENT FOR COOPERATIVE INVESTIGATION (22) A report of the authorization of an agreement covering a cooperative research investigation with the Illinois F a r m Supply Company, an investigation of the effects of various active ingredients and combinations thereof on insect pests of farm animals, to be carried on by the Agricultural Experiment Station and the State Natural History Survey Division. This agreement is drawn for a period of one year, beginning December 15, 1938, with provisions for its extension. T h e Company agrees to pay the sum of $200 to cover the expenses. T h i s report w a s received for record. UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP FOR W I N N E R S O F LATIN CONTESTS (23) T h e Illinois Classical Conference sponsors each year a Latin contest in high schools. At present the University of Chicago and Northwestern University, and Rockford, Knox, and Rosary Colleges offer the winners full tuition scholarships. T h e Conference has asked the University of Illinois to offer a tuition scholarship. This does not necessarily mean a scholarship every year since the winner can avail himself of only one offer.

On motion of Mr. Wieland, the offering of this scholarship was authorized.
