Whereas, T h e Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois at its meeting on March 18, 1938 authorized the President of the University "to apply for the erection of a regional research laboratory for researches to develop any scientific, chemical, and technical uses and new and extended markets for farm commodities and by-products at the University, and to express the willingness of the University to deed land to the United States Government for a site for such laboratory, and to offer reasonable cooperation of the staff and reasonable use of the University farm land," and Whereas, T h e Secretary of Agriculture has requested that the willingness of the University in this behalf be evidenced by an option to the Secretary of Agriculture to convey such a site within six months from the date of such option if the Secretary of Agriculture shall accept such option; Now, therefore, be it resolved By the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, pursuant to authorization above set forth, that the President of the Board of Trustees, in behalf of said Board, execute such an option, hereunto attached and made a part hereof, duly attested by the Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, and deliver the same to the Secretary of Agriculture of the United States or his duly authorized agents or representatives. UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE BUREAU OF CHEMISTRY AND SOILS REGIONAL RESEARCH LABORATORY Purchase OPTION Know all men by these presents, that the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, a public corporation of the State of Illinois, at Urbana, Illinois, hereinafter called the vendor, in consideration of the appraisal by officials of the United States of the land herein described and other good and valuable considerations, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, does hereby severally agree with the Secretary of Agriculture of the United States, as follows: (1) That the vendor will sell to the United States of America, under the conditions hereinafter provided, and at the price of $5.00, all that tract or tracts of land owned by said vendor situate and lying in the county of Champaign, State of Illinois, containing approximately twenty acres, more or less, as described below, provided that, within six months from the date of this instrument, this offer is accepted by the Secretary of Agriculture: Beginning at a point eighty feet south of the center line of Hessel Boulevard, said center line being determined as being midway between the concrete curbs of said Hessel Boulevard, and thirty-three feet west of the center line of First Street, said center line being the line midway between the concrete curbs; thence south along a line parallel to the center line of First Street and thirtythree feet therefrom a distance of seven hundred and two feet; thence in a westerly direction 1278.4 feet to the east right of way line of the Illinois Central Railroad; thence in a northeasterly direction 709 feet along said right of way line to a point 80 feet south of the center line of Hessel Boulevard; thence east along a line 80 feet from said center line of Hessel Boulevard and parallel thereto 1203.3 feet to the point of beginning, the tract above described containing twenty acres, all in the southeast quarter of section 13, Township 19 North, Range 8, East of the Third Principal Meridian, Champaign County, Illinois. The title to said land to be conveyed free and clear of encumbrances. (2) The vendor further agrees to execute and deliver, upon being requested to do so by an authorized representative of the Secretary of Agriculture, and without payment or tender of the purchase price, a good and sufficient general warranty deed or deeds (except where the law provides otherwise for conveyance by trustees, officers of courts, etc.) conveying to the United States of America, or its assigns, the land herein optioned, the title to which shall be
