from the University Senates Conference. 1 H e also introduced Dr. George Kottemann of Peoria, president of the Alumni Association. OLD AND NEW BUSINESS Report on Change of University Housing Requirement O n January 20, 1983, the board acted to change the University housing requirement for undergraduate students at U r b a n a from 60 to 30 credit hours. T h e trustees then asked for an assessment of the impact of the change in policy, to be delivered to the board in the fall of 1984. Such a report was mailed to the trustees prior to the present meeting. (A copy of the report is filed with the secretary of the board for record.) Its summary conclusion was, "the change in the housing requirement from 60 to 30 credit hours has achieved its various objectives without damaging either the University's own residence hall system or the private certified housing community." T h e report indicated that somewhat more work had been required by the administrative staff, in particular in assisting private owners and operators in making contact with students in advance of their arrival at the Urbana campus. There has been some indication that owners are investing more heavily to keep their properties attractive and to improve their share of the market. T h e final conclusion of the report was: " . . . even under the current arrangements, the campus provides more and better options than at any time in the recent past and likely at a higher level of quality." REGULAR AGENDA T h e board considered the following reports and recommendations from the president of the University. By consensus, the board agreed that one vote would be taken and considered the vote on each agenda item nos. 1 through 7 inclusive. T h e recommendations were individually discussed but acted upon at one time. ( T h e record of board action appears at the end of each item.) Award of Certified Public Accountant Certificates

(1) The Committee on Accountancy recommends that the certificate of certified public accountant be awarded under Section 5 of the Illinois Public Accounting Act of 1983 to nine candidates who have presented evidence that they are holders of valid and unrevoked certified public accountant certificates obtained by passing the uniform written examination in another state or territory of the United States and who qualify in all other respects under this provision of the law. The names of the candidates have been filed with the secretary of the board. I concur in this recommendation.

O n motion of Mr. Howard, these certificates were awarded.
