BOARD OF TRUSTEES

MATTERS P R E S E N T E D BY PRESIDENT C H A S E T h e Board considered the following matters presented by the President of the University. FINANCIAL SITUATION (1) A statement concerning the financial situation of the University and of the steps taken to effect savings wherever possible. This report was received for record. AGREEMENT WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WELFARE FOR T H E OPERATION O F THE RESEARCH A N D E D U C A T I O N A L HOSPITAL (2) A draft of the agreement with the Department of Public Welfare Judge Johnson explained this agreement in detail. O n motion of Dr. Noble, this form of contract w a s approved, to be drafted and presented for execution. RESIGNATION OF C. J. ROSEBERRY (3) A report that Mr. C. J. Roseberry has resigned his position as Alumni Recorder effective January I, 1932. This report w a s received for record. APPOINTMENTS OF DIRECTOR OF ALUMNI RELATIONS AND ALUMNI RECORDER (4) A recommendation that Mr. Carl Stephens be appointed Director of Alumni Relations at a salary of $3,000 a year beginning January 1, 1932, and Mr. Gleyn Goodwine be appointed Alumni Recorder at a salary of $2,650 a year beginning January 1, 1932. Mr. Goodwine has also been appointed Treasurer of the Alumni Association at a salary of $350 a year beginning January i, 1932. Mr. Stephens is to continue also as Editor of the Illinois Alumni News and General Secretary of the Alumni Association for which he will be paid a salary of $1,800 by the Alumni Association. Mr. Goodwine has been serving as office manager in the Alumni Records Office since September, 1930, and his salary remains unchanged. These adjustments will involve no additional expense on the University's side. O n motion of M r . Barrett, these adjustments were approved. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR RUTH A. WARDALL (5) A recommendation that Professor Ruth A. Wardall of the Department of H o m e Economics be given a leave of absence for one month with full pay from January 1, 1932, on account of illness. This will involve no additional expense as her colleagues will carry on her work during her absence. O n motion of M r . Trees, this leave w a s granted. SICK LEAVE FOR PROFESSOR JAKOB KUNZ (6) A recommendation that Dr. Jakob Kunz, Professor of Mathematical Physics, who has been i l since October 15 be given sick leave of absence on full l pay until March 1, 1932. This will involve no additional expense as his colleagues will carry on his work during his absence. O n motion of Dr. Noble, this leave w a s granted. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR DR. J. HOWARD BEARD (7) A recommendation that Dr. J. Howard Beard, University Health Officer, be given leave of absence for one month with full pay from January 25 to enable him to undergo surgical treatment. H e expects to be able to return to his duties shortly after the beginning of the second semester. This will involve no additional expense as his colleagues will carry on his work during his absence. O n motion of M r s . Hopkins, this leave was granted.
