Co., Kewaunee, Wis. 5 460 05 On motion of Doctor Noble, the contracts were awarded to the lowest bidder in each case, as recommended. The Supervising Architect presented the following proposal from the Lehigh Stone Company of Kankakee, Illinois, for surfacing portions of the South Campus drives. This is an experiment to test out three different thicknesses of stone base with asphalt toppings on our present cinder drives. The proposal is as follows: August 24, 1931 Professor James M. White, Supervising Architect, University of Illinois Gentlemen: W e herewith submit our proposal for the construction of pavement on University of Illinois drives at Urbana, Illinois, all as outlined below. For the pavement on Sixth Street consisting of approximately 2,000 square yards wc bid $1.75 per sq. yd. This includes the rolling of the filled sub-grade; the furnishing and placing of a crushed stone foundation coursefiveinches thick after compaction and the furnishing and placing of a bituminous coated aggregate surface two inches thick after compaction. For the pavement on Gregory Drive east of Sixth Street consisting of approximately 2,100 square yards, we bid J1.10 per sq. yd. This includes the rolling of the sub-grade; the furnishing and placing of a crushed stone foundation course six inches thick after compaction and the furnishing and placing of a bituminous coated aggregate surface three quarters (24) of one inch thick after compaction. For the pavement on Gregory Drive west of Sixth Street consisting of approximately 3,000 square yards, we bid $0.70 per sq, yd. This includes the scarifying, shaping and rolling of the cinder sub-grade; the furnishing and placing of a crushed stone foundation course three inches loose before compaction and the furnishing and placing of a bituminous coated aggregate surface three quarters (fi) of one inch thick after compaction. All of the above work to be done in accordance with conference held with Mr. White and i n accordance with specifications for construction of Macadam Roads and Bituminous Coated Aggregate Wearing Surface now onfilein Supervising Architect's Office.
