C O N T R A C T F O R E X T E N S I O N O F RETAINING WALL AT COAL Y A R D

(20) The Supervising Architect submits the following bids received on January 31, 1931, upon the extension of the retaining wall along the north side of the coal yard: H. G. Whittenberg, Louisville, Kentucky $4 245 00 O. L. Shoemaker, Champaign, Illinois 4 470 00 Sowers & Corkery, Urbana, Illinois 4 611 00 A. W . Stoolman, Champaign, Illinois 4 726 00 King & Petry, Champaign, Illinois 5 242 00 English Bros., Champaign, Illinois 5 654 00 H e recommends that the contract be awarded to H. G. Whittenberg, the lowest bidder, on the basis of his bid of S4245. A special appropriation of $4000 was made at the meeting of the Board on January 9 for this work. The additional S245 may be charged to the current Physical Plant Extension Fund. O n motion of M r s . E v a n s , this contract w a s a w a r d e d to H . G . Whittenberg, the lowest bidder, as r e c o m m e n d e d .

CONTRACT FOR CURBS ON CAMPUS DRIVES

(21) The Supervising Architect submits the following schedule of bids received on January 31, 1931, on curbs for campus drives and the necessary drainage connected therewith, for which an appropriation of ?8ooo was made at the meeting of the Board on January 9: Frank A. Somers Co. (Urbana) $7 857 90 King & Petry (Champaign) 8 215 50 Kent and Company (Champaign) 8 302 00 H e recommends the award of the contract for this work to Frank A. Somers Company, the lowest bidder, at a cost of $7,857.90. The improvement will extend from Fourth Street east on Gregory Drive to Goodwin Avenue, and from there north to Nevada Street, and also the block on Sixth Street from Armory Avenue to Gregory Drive. This will involve the opening of Goodwin Avenue between Nevada Street and Gregory Drive. While this has never been officially ordered, it has been a part of the campus plan and the Board should at this time authorize the opening of this street. O n motion of M r s . E v a n s , the contract for curbing w a s a w a r d e d to F r a n k A . S o m e r s C o m p a n y , the lowest bidder, a n d the opening of G o o d w i n A v e n u e w a s authorized as r e c o m m e n d e d .

CONTRACT FOR LABORATORY EQUIPMENT

(22) A request for a hearing for a representative of W . W . Kimball Company, bidders on the general laboratory equipment for the Medical and Dental Laboratories Building (Minutes, January 9, 1931, page 137). This hearing w a s granted. M r . Kaltenbrun w a s introduced. H e stated orally that W . W . Kimball C o m p a n y w o u l d abide b y their bid of #58,126.80, a n d o n request for a written statement, h e wrote a n d signed the following in the presence of the C o m m i t t e e : Our bid of $58,126.80 for Laboratory Furniture still stands and upon which we will be pleased to have you take such action as is proper, either to award contract to us or i awarded to others to return our certified check. f
