A P P O I N T M E N T O F DR. H E R B E R T N E W E L L C O U C H (3) O n recommendation of Dean Daniels and Professor Canter, Acting Head of the Department of Classics, I recommend that Dr. Herbert Newell Couch, at present with the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, be appointed Associate in Classics for one year from September 1, 1928, at a salary of $2,500. O n motion of M r s . Ickes, this appointment w a s made. DIRECTORS OF THE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (4) In accordance with the regulations of the Athletic Association, I hereby recommend the appointment of the following as the Board of Directors of the Athletic Association for the ensuing year: Mr. George A. Huff, of Champaign Judge O. A. Harker, of Champaign Professor F. A. Russell, of Urbana Mr. E. I. Burke, of Champaign Mr. A. R. Hall, of Danville O n motion of Dr. Noble, these directors were appointed. C. P. A. REGULATION AMENDMENT (5) The Committee on Accountancy recommends to m e that rule thirtythree of the regulations governing C. P. A. examinations be amended to read as follows: 33. A candidate who passes in Theory of Accounts and Practical Accounting and fails in one or both of the other examination subjects (Auditing and L a w ) or a candidate who passes in Auditing and L a w and fails in Theory of Accounts and Practical Accounting, who presents himself for re-examination at either one of the next two examinations be credited with the subject or subjects in which he has received passing grades in the previous examination and will be required to write only on the subject or subjects in which he previously failed, such re-examination to be without fee. Such a candidate who does not appear at either of the next two examinations, or who, having appeared, fails in the subject or subjects he is required to write, must, if he subsequently appears for examination, write on all of the prescribed subjects and pay the usual examination fee ($25.00). A candidate for re-examination who fails to meet the provisions of the above paragraph must repeat the entire examination and pay the usual examination fee. O n motion of M r . Barr, this recommendation w a s concurred in. APPROPRIATION FOR INDIAN ARCHEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS (6) I recommend that an appropriation of $7,812 be made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund for continuing our explorations in the archeology of Illinois and publishing the reports thereof. O n motion of M r s . Grigsby, this appropriation w a s m a d e , by the following vote: A y e , M r . Armstrong, M r . Barr, M r s . Busey, M r s . Evans, M r s . Grigsby, M r s . Ickes, D r . Noble, M r . W a r d ; no, none; absent, M r . Blair, M r . Small, M r . Trees. SPECIAL MEETING OF ILLINOIS POWER AND LIGHT CORPORATION (7) I present a notice of and proxy for a special meeting of the stockholders of the Illinois Power and Light Corporation, in which the University holds one thousand shares of seven per cent cumulative preferred stock, received as the endowment of the McKinley Professorship of Economics of Public Utilities, on April 23, 1928.
