AGREEMENT WITH MR. GEORGE PALMER OF NORMAL COVERING LEASE OF CARTER PROPERTY

(18) T h e Comptroller submits a proposed agreement with Mr. George Palmer, the prospective purchaser of the Joseph Carter property at Normal, leasing the property to him month by month from September 1, 1927, until such time aa conditions make it possible to conclude the sale of this property to him. The present lease expires September 1 and under this agreement we could keep the property rented until it is sold. I recommend approval of this agreement. O n motion of M r s . E v a n s , the Comptroller a n d the Secretary w e r e authorized to execute this lease.

APPOINTMENT OF PROFESSOR CARL COLVIN

(19) As immediate action was necessary, I have appointed Mr. Carl Colvin, Director of Education in Haiti, as acting Associate Professor of Agricultural Education for five months from September 1, 1927, at a salary of $400 per month, tofillthe vacancy during thefirstsemester caused by the leave of absence granted to Associate Professor A. W . Nolan. I ask approval of m y action. O n motion of D r . N o b l e , this appointment w a s confirmed. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR MISS MARGARET UTLEY (20) On recommendation of Dean H. W . Mumford of the College of Agriculture, I recommend that Miss Margaret Utley, Specialist in office organization and management in the College of Agriculture, be granted a leave of absence for one month from September 19, 1927, without pay. O n m o t i o n of M r s . Grigsby, this leave w a s granted.

FEE FOR DAIRY MANUFACTURING SHORT COURSE

(21) Dean Mumford, of the College of Agriculture, recommends that a fee of $10 be established for those enrolling in the Dairy Manufacturing short course to be held from September 4 to 17, 1927. I concur in this recommendation. O n motion of M r . W a r d , this fee w a s authorized.

REPORT OF FIRE ON NORTH CARTER-PENNELL FARM

(22) The following report from the Comptroller of afirewhich occurred in the broodhouse on the North Carter-Pennell farm near Rankin, on M a y 17, and the adjustment with the insurance company of the damage thereof: August Sixth, 1927 President David KmUy, 355 Administration Building, West. Dear President Kinlet: I wish to report that on M a y 17, 1927, afireoccurred in the brooder house on the North Carter-Pennell farm near Rankin. The fire is said to have resulted from imperfection in the heater or from overheating of the brooder stove. The damage was estimated by Professor Case to amount to $100 and settlement for this amount has been made with the Aetna Fire Insurance Company with w h o m insurance on the buildings on these farms is being arranged.
