Siebert now $1,800, be made $2,000; and that the salary of Anita McLean now $1,080, be made $1,200. In addition to the above named, and in addition to others who may be employed under the authority herewith requested, Mr. Josef F. Wright, Director of Publicity and instructor in journalism, will also be on the staff. O n motion of M r . MESSAGE FROM JUDGE F. L. WHAM

(36) In a letter dated June 18, 1927, received from Judge Fred L. W h a m , recently a member of the Board, occurs this sentence: "Will you not convey to the Trustees at their next meeting an expression of m y very real distress at being compelled to give up m y membership on the Board; also m y best wishes for their continued joy and success in carrying on the splendid work in which they are engaged?" O n motion of M r s . E v a n s , the President of the University w a s requested to convey to M r . W h a m an expression of regret on the part of the B o a r d in losing M r . W h a m . SALE OF SOUTHERN PACIFIC STOCK (37) A recommendation that the following resolution be adopted: W H E R E A S , this Board of Trustees now holds by donation and assignment from Francis J. Plym some Three Hundred Thirty-five (335) shares of common stock of the Southern Pacific Company, and W H E R E A S , by the terms of such donation this Board is empowered to sell and transfer all or any part of said stock, and W H E R E A S , it is deemed advisable to sell said stock and reinvest the proceeds in other safe and legal securities to be held for the purposes of such donation, when market conditions justify; T H E R E F O R E , B E IT R E S O L V E D that the Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Board and Treasurer of the University be and are hereby authorized to negotiate a sale of said stock of the Southern Pacific Company and that the Treasurer of the Board, A.
