APPROPRIATION F O R F L O U R N O Y STREET PROPERTY. C H I C A G O (12) On request of the Comptroller, I recommend that an appropriation of $1,200 be made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund to make thefinalpayment on the purchase of the property at 1745 Floumoy Street, Chicago. This i represented by s a mortgage which was outstanding against the property at the time of purchase (Board Minutes, May 10, 1922) and which is due on January 10, 1927. O n motion of M r . Armstrong, this appropriation was made, by the following vote: Aye, M r . Armstrong, M r . Barr, M r . Blair, M r s . Busey, M r s . Grigsby, M r s . Ickes, M r . Noble, M r . Trees, M r . W h a m ; no, none; absent, M r s . Evans, M r . Small. DEATH BENEFIT FOR MR. J. C. FISCUS (13) Professor James M . White, Superintendent of Business Operations, reports that Mr. J. C. Fiscus, a carpenter in the Physical Plant Department, died on December 19, 1926. He had been in the service of the University since July 7, 1913, and his estate is therefore entitled to the maximum death benefit, which is 5 0 % of his cash salary. I recommend that $1,080 be appropriated from the Reserve and Contingent Fund as death benefit for Mr. Fiscus, and that the Comptroller be authorized to pay the same to his legal representative. Mr. Small. GIFTS TO COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

(14) Under the authority given the President by the Board, I have authorized Dean Ketchum to accept the following gifts to the College of Engineering: From Mr. W . R. Abbott, President of the Illinois Bell Telephone Company, acting for the Company, the American Telephone and Telegraph Company, and Western Electric Company, to the Department of Electrical Engineering, an improved type of voltmeter milliammeter, valued at $500. From the R. W . Mcllvaine Company, of Chicago, to the Department of Mechanical Engineering, a latest type meter for testing moisture in molding sand, valued at $90. This report w a s received for record. GIFT FOR RESEARCH IN EDIBLE GELATIN (15) Under the authority given the President by the Board, I have authorized Dr. Julius H. Hess to accept an additional gift of $500 from the Edible Gelatin Manufacturers' Research Society of America, to continue the research in the use of edible gelatin in infant feeding until February 1.
