LEAVE O F ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR D1ETZ (26) I recommend that Professor F. C. Dietz of the Department of History be granted leave of absence on one-half pay for the year 1917-18, for the purpose of travel and study abroad, under the rules. O n motion of M r . Armstrong, this leave w a s granted.

RETIRING ALLOWANCE OF MR. W. J. ENGLE

(17) I recommend that the retiring allowance of Mr. W . J. Engle, formerly herdsman in the Department of Animal Husbandry, be computed on the basis of his average money salary for the lastfiveyears plus the average annual cash value of his perquisites as listed by the Comptroller, making his retiring allowance $860. O n motion of D r . Noble, this recommendation w a s approved.

ADDITION TO LIBRARY SCHOOL BUDGET

(28) I request authority to appoint an additional assistant on the faculty of the Library School at a salary of $1800 and that the Library School Budget be amended accordingly. O n motion of M r s . Grigsby, this recommendation w a s adopted. ADJUSTMENT IN AGRICULTURAL BUDGET (29) On the request of Dean Mumford, I recommend that the balance of $6,709.29, carried over from the lastfiscalyear, be appropriated to the College of Agriculture for expenditures in the Dairy Department, and that an equal amount be deducted from the appropriation of $25,000 allowed in the budget for special equipment in that college. O n motion of M r s . Evans, this adjustment was approved. BUILDING ON COOK COUNTY EXPERIMENTAL STATION FARM (30) Dean Mumford recommends the erection of a building as house and headquarters on the Cook County Experimental Station Farm. The Supervising Architect estimates the cost to be $10,000. I recommend that authority be given to proceed with the construction of such a building, the cost to be paid from the funds appropriated for the Cook County Experiment Station and that an appropriation of $10,000 be made from the above funds for the purpose. O n motion of D r . Noble, this recommendation was adopted, by the following vote: A y e , M r . Armstrong, M r . Barr, M r s . Evans, M r s . Grigsby, M r s . Ickes, D r . Noble, M r . Trees, M r . VACATION OF CERTAIN STREETS IN COLLEGE PLACE (31) The following resolution, on recommendation of the Supervising Architect: Be it resolved that the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois hereby agrees, and assures the City Commissioners of Champaign, that i will open a t street sixty feet wide, the north line of which shall be 439.21 feet south of the center line of Armory Avenue measured on Fourth Street, and 439.25 feet south of the center line of Armory Avenue measured on First Street; P R O V I D E D that the City Commissioners of Champaign will vacate all streets in the tract known as College Place south of the north line of the proposed street between the west line of Fourth Street and the east line of First Street. O n motion of M r s . Evans, this resolution w a s adopted. COMPLETION OF SECOND UNIT OF NEW LIBRARY (32) In accordance with the recommendation of the Supervising Architect, and in view of the saving that has been effected by obviating a double transfer of books and on account of the unexpected extra charges and improvements in the second unit of the N e w Library Building, I recommend that the sum of $10,000
