ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION RESEARCH PROJECT (37) In accordance with the action of the Board of Trustees on M a y 16, 1925 (page 227), I recommend that the President be authorized to receive from the Athletic Association a sum sufficient to cover the salaries and expenses of the proposed research into the effects of physical training and athletics on the individuals who participate therein, and to proceed with the appointment of persons to be in charge of such work on its psychological side and of the clerical help needed. O n motion of M r . W h a m , this recommendation w a s approved.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR DEAN K. C. BABCOCK

(38) The following recommendation from President Kinley: I recommend that Dean K. C. Babcock be given a leave of absence on half salary from October 1, 1925, to April 15, 1926, not as a "sabbatical" leave in the ordinary sense, but in view of his long service without a break. During the twelve years that he has been here, Dean Babcock has had only three vacations of more than a few days, viz:—in 1915—five weeks; in 1920—three months and a few days, of sick leave on full pay; in 1922—five weeks; in 1924—five weeks; and has served as Director of the Summer Session for two summers without additional compensation. O n motion of M r s . Evans, this leave w a s granted. APPOINTMENT OF DEAN A. H. DANIELS AS ACTING DEAN OF THE COLLEGE O F LIBERAL ARTS A N D SCIENCES (39) I recommend that Dean A. H. Daniels of the Graduate School be appointed also Acting Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, to serve from October 1, 1925, to April 15, 1926, during the absence of Dean K. C. Babcock, at an additional salary of $50 a month during the term of his service as Acting Dean. O n motion of M r s . Ickes, this appointment w a s made. COMMITTEE ON PORTRAIT OF PRESIDENT KINLEY President Noble reported the appointment of the following committee to secure an artist to paint a portrait of President Kinley: M r s . Evans, M r s . Ickes, M r s . Busey, M r . W h a m . HOTEL RATES AT HOMECOMING Mr. Trees presented the matter of unreasonable hotel rates during Homecoming and at similar times. O n motion of Mr. Armstrong, the President of the Board was requested to appoint a committee of three members to handle this matter. President Noble appointed M r . Barr, Mr. Armstrong, and M r . Trees as members of this committee. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING, AUGUST 25, 1 92S The Secretary presented for record the minutes of a meeting of the Executive Committee held August 25, 1925. A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, was held on August 25, 1925. Present: Merle J. Trees, and W . L. Noble.
