PROPOSED G R E G O R Y MEMORIAL Mrs. Ickes, for the Committee on Buildings and Grounds, presented the following report on the matter of a memorial for President J. M . Gregory (see page 292): The Committee on Buildings and Grounds has carefully considered the resolution presented by the early Alumni of the University proposing that a building be named after Doctor J. M . Gregory, thefirstPresident of the University. W e are deeply sensible of the loyalty and interest of the Alumni in question and we recognize that it would be especially appropriate that some official recognition should be made of the devotion and service to the University of its first President. However, we are of the opinion that it would create an unwise precedent to name a building erected out of State funds after any individual, however notable his services may have been to the University, and we recommend that the Board of Trustees adopt the policy that no such building shall be named after an individual. O n motion of M r s . Ickes, this report w a s adopted. O n motion of M r . J. M . Gregory, first president of the University. President N o b l e appointed M r s . Ickes, M r . A r m s t r o n g , and M r . W h a m to act o n this committee.
