BOARD OF TRUSTEES

" W e have, unsolicited, been invited by letter to bring our cases to the Burnham City Hospital. W e are permitted to enter the Margaret Carle Sanitarium with our patients, and I have been personally informed by the Mercy Hospital that w e m a y enter that institution with our patients. That comprises all of the hospitals in this vicinity. " N o w w e are asking permission to enter the University Hospital which is an institution maintained for the benefit of students, faculty members, and employees of the institution. This institution is on University property, is tax exempt, has as its staff individuals who are paid out of tax money of the state of which I a m a taxpayer. I see no reason why I should be denied the rights granted m e by the Illinois State Board to practice m y profession. "There come under our care individuals who prefer our special kind of treatment, people who employ no other kind of treatment, but in case of illness necessitating their removal to a hospital for nursing care or isolation they are compelled to accept other treatment and are refused permission to call the doctor of their choice. "I respectfully submit these facts to you for your consideration, and kindly request that these be submitted to the board of trustees for their further consideration." Yours truly, C. E. Pollard, D.O. I recommend that the Board of Trustees notify Dr. Pollard that it can not see its way clear to modify its policy. O n m o t i o n of M r . POLICY REGARDING CERTAIN KINDS OF RESEARCH PROBLEMS

(9) O n September 14, 1920 (page 7$, Minutes for 1920-22) the Board adopted a policy regarding cooperative research problems. I recommend that this policy be amended by the adoption of the following paragraph, to be No. 3 of the existing policy: 3. It is agreed by the outside party or parties that they will not under any circumstance use the name of the University of Illinois in any advertisement, whether with reference to the cooperative agreement or any other matter. O n motion of M r s . Ickes, this a m e n d m e n t w a s adopted. PRINTING BIENNIAL REPORT FOR 1924 (10) A recommendation that an appropriation of $1880 be made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund to the Board of Trustees expense and equipment fund to meet the expense of printing and binding the biennial report of 1924. This appropriation was m a d e by the following vote: Aye, M r . Armstrong, M r . Barr, M r s . Busey, M r s . Evans, M r s . Grigsby, M r s . Ickes, M r . Noble, M r . Trees, M r . W h a m ; no, none; absent, M r . Blair, M r . Small.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT IN CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

(11) The University Senate has approved the following recommendation of the faculty of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences: 1. That the foreign language requirement for admission to the curricula in chemistry and chemical engineering be changed from— French or German 2 units to Greek, Latin, French, German, or Spanish 2 units (both in the same language) a. That the total language requirement for graduation from these curricula including courses offered for entrance must be equivalent to two years of University work in German or French and must be completed before the senior year.
