community health with indefinite tenure, on an academic year service basis with an annual base salary for 1994-95 of $73,000, for a total salary of $81,111. He will succeed Dr. R. Warwick Armstrong who resigned as head to return to teaching and research as a faculty member. The nomination is made with the advice of a search committee, 1 the support of the faculty and the College Executive Committee. The vice president for academic affairs concurs. I recommend approval.

On motion of Ms. Reese, this appointment was approved. Head, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Urbana

(19) The chancellor at Urbana, after consultation with the dean of the College of Education, has recommended the appointment of Bonnie Armbruster, presently professor of curriculum and instruction and in the Center for the Study of Reading, as head of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, beginning August 21, 1994, on a twelve-month service basis with an administrative increment of $3,000. Dr. Armbruster will continue to hold the rank of professor with indefinite tenure on an academic year service basis at an annual salary for 1994-95 of $58,070, for a total salary of $61,070. She will succeed Dr. Steven E. Tozer who resigned as head to return to full-time teaching and research as a faculty member. The nomination is made with the advice of a search committee, 2 the support of the faculty of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, and the College Executive Committee. The vice president for academic affairs concurs. I recommend approval.

(20) The following new appointments to the faculty of the rank of assistant professor and above, and certain administrative positions, have been approved since the previous meeting of the Board of Trustees. Positions in the University are classified in the following categories and are designated in the budget by the symbols indicated. A — Indefinite tenure N — Term appointment not eligible to be appointed for an indefinite term and not credited toward probationary period Q — Initial term appointment for a professor or associate professor Y — Twelve-month service basis 1-7 — Indicates the number of years of service which will be credited at the end of the contract period toward completion of the probationary period relating to tenure. Figures following a symbol indicate percentage of time if the appointment is on a part-time basis (e.g., N75 means one year on three-fourths time).
