BOARD OF TRUSTSBS

[December 9,

December 1,1919

President David Kinley, University of Illinois

M Y DEAR PRESIDENT KINLEY:

I have received your letter of the 28th inst., relative to my returning to my work as Dean of the College of Education. I agree with you as to the propriety of all of these conditions. I entered upon my office as Superintendent of the Chicago schools on Wednesday, November 12 and resigned Wednesday, November 26. If you will notify the Business Office to have the proper deduction made from my next salary check, this method will be satisfactory; or if you prefer I will send you my check to cover whatever sum you state should be returned. Very truly yours,

C. E. CHADSEY

On motion of Mr. Abbott, the action of Acting President Kinley in consenting to the withdrawal of Dean Chadsey's resignation under the conditions indicated was approved.

RESIGNATION OF PROFESSOR E. R. DEWISNUP (5) The resignation of Professor Dewsnup, to take effect at such time in February as may be most convenient to the interests of the College of Commerce. He has accepted a Professorship of Commerce in the University of Liverpool. Dean C. M. Thompson recommends acceptance. Professor Dewsnup writes: "I shall return to my native country, not only with a warm regard for the University of Illinois and its faculty, but also with a high esteem for America, and a sympathetic appreciation of American ideals."

This resignation was accepted, to take effect at such time in February as may be most convenient to the interests of the College of Commerce, subject to the approval of the President of the University. »

RESIGNATION OF DR. ARTHUR R. SEYMOUR (6) The resignation of Dr. A. R. Seymour as Assistant Dean of Foreign Students and Associate in Romance Languages, to take effect January 31, 1920.

This resignation was accepted.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR E. B. GREENE (7) A request from Professor E. B. Greene for leave of absence on one-half pay during one semester of the year 1920-21, to complete his sabbatical year which was interrupted by the war.

On motion of Mr. Abbott, the Acting President of the University was authorized to grant this request. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR MR. H. L. CARLSON

(8) A request from Dr. L. H. Smith, approved by Dean Davenport, that Mr. H. L. Carlson, Assistant in Soil Physics, be granted a leave of absence from December 5, 1919, to April 1,1920, without pay.

On motion of Mrs. Evans, this request was granted.
