5. During the second academic year mathematics is to be continued through differential and integral calculus; physics, both lectures and laboratory work replaces the chemistry of the freshman year; French or Spanish as a language; surveying, both plane and military sketching, Military drill and physical training are to be maintained. 6. Between the second and third collegiate years the summer military camp is to be continued, progressively taking up the practice of the first summer and with more specialized lines of work in infantry, cavalry, and artillery tactics, in the theory of air craft, in military law, accounting or other subjects in which the student desires to concentrate. 7. For the third year mathematics to be continued through integral calculus and applied mechanics with the theory and practise in steam and gas engines, motors, etc. Language continued in French or Spanish, elements of geology, astronomy or other branches of "Natural Philosophy/' also ordnance and gunnery; military and international law. 8. The third summer military camp continues the drill and field work. Special squads are to be detailed under military direction for studies in management at arsenals, railway, steel or munition shops or quartermasters' depots, or to receive practical instruction in transportation problems under suitable experts. 9. The fourth year is to be given largely to specialized subjects such as electrical engineering, military structures, bridges, cranes, derricks, water supply and sanitation, taught chiefly by university instructors; also army accounting and contracts; ordnance and gunnery, field and permanent fortification, strategy, and military law, taught by army officers. Choice of these special subjects to be made by each student subject to the approval of the military authorities detailed to the university by the Department of War.
