MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES or THE

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS

October 1, 1918

A special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held at the University Club, in Urbana, at 2 p. m. on Tuesday, October 1,1918, pursuant to the following notice which was sent out by the Secretary on September 26, 1918:

On the call of the President, Mr. W. L. Abbott, there will be a special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois at the University, in Urbana, at 2 o'clock p. m. on Tuesday, October 1, 1918, to consider matters submitted by the President of the University and the Committees of the Board, and such other matters as may be duly submitted.

When the Board convened, the following members were present: President Abbott, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Taggart, Mr. Trimble, Miss Watson. President James was present.

The Board considered the following matters submitted by the President of the University.

STUDENTS' ARMY TRAINING CORPS

(1) A report of the preparations made for the care of the men in the unit of the Students' Army Training Corps inducted into service as of this day (October 1,1918). Acting under the authority which the Board vested in me (September 3, 1918, p. 108), I have proceeded with the organization of the Students' Army Training Corps according to the directions of the Committee on Education and Special Training of the War Department. As we had informed the War Department that the University of Illinois would take 5000 members of the S.A.T;C. and the Department had not indicated its
