(26) The following statement: I desire to offer to the University a collection of one thousand volumes more or less to be known as the Colin Dew James Collection in honor of my father.* The Librarian of the University shall feel free to distribute tfrese books in the Library as the' nature of the sattflg may require. It is tfhderstood that the Librarian will mark each volume in this collection by jfti appropriate label. (27) A request from Professor A. H. Clark of the School of Pharmacy for additional help" in the department of chemistry of the School of Pharmacy. O n motion of M r s . Evans, the} President of the University was authorized to include in the next budget provision for an additional position in chemistry to be filled on later nomination.

APPROPRIATION BILLS

(28) A report on the status of the appropriation bills before the General Assembly.

SALARIES OF MEMBERS OF STAFF IN OFFICERS' RESERVE TRAINING CAMPS

(29) A request from Mr. John A. Dent, associate In Mechanical Engineering, for information concerning the policy of the University in regard to the question of his salary for the remainder of his term of appointment. Tlie atction of the Board (page 294) permitted the Coifcjftfo'ller to pay salaries of members of the instructional and scientific staff until the end of the year for such as withdrew from the service oi the University to enter the service of the Army or Navy, providing that the University salaries should stop when' the persons in qttestion go on the pay roll of the United States. It seems that the Federal Government is going to pay $100.00 a month as a contribution toward expenses to the people who enter the Training Camps. Unless I am instructed to the contrary, I shall rule that the reception of this compensation does not constitute going on the pay

*Thc Reverend Colin Dew James was born in Randolph County, West Virginia, January 15, 1808, and died at Bonita, Kansas, January 30, 1888. He was one of the early pioneer preachers of Illinois, having been for fifty years a member of the Illinois Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
