in Chicago, arrd that the Committee expected to complete this purchase within a short time. APPOINTMENTS MADE BY PRESIDENT JAMES The Secretary of the Board presented for record the following list of appointments made by the President of the University.

Barnes, O. A., Graduate Assistant in Chemistry, for five months beginning February 1, 1917, at a salary of thirty dollars ($30) a month. (February 3, 1917*). Brooks, Ruth, University Stenographer, Rank II, in the Business Office, at a salary of fifty dollars ($50) a month, beginning February 1, 1917, and continuing until further notice, subject to the rules of the Civil Service Commission. (February 12, 1917). Craig, E. E., Order Stenographer in the purchasing department of the Business Office, at a salary of sixty dollars ($60) a month, beginning January 1, 1917, and continuing until further notice, subject to the rules of the Civil Service Commission. (January 15, 1917). Fazel, C. S., Assistant in Physics, on full time, for five months beginning February 1, 1917, at a salary of eighty dollars ($80) a month, this appointment superseding his previous appointment at sixty dollars a month. (February 7, 1917). Goodyear, H. M., Graduate Assistant in Anatomy, in the College of Medicine, without salary, for the second semester of the current academic year. (January 27, 1917). Knight, Joseph, Technician in the department of physiology and physiological chemistry in the College of Medicine, beginning January 10, 1917, and continuing until further notice, but not longer than January 1, 1918, at a salary of forty dollars ($'40) a month. (February 6, 1917). Little, R. F., Assistant in Business Law, on part time, for the second semester of the current academic year, at a salary of two hundred fifty dollars ($250) for the semester. (February 12, 1917). Nelson, M. N., Assistant in Economics, on one-half time, for the second semester of the current academic year, at a salary of two hundred fifty dollars ($250) for the semester. (February 17, 1917). O'Gorman, J. W., Instructor in Education, for five months beginning February 1, 1917, at a salary of two hundred dollars ($200) a month. (January 30, 1917). Phelps, C. E., Assistant to the Director of the Shop Laboratories in the department of mechanical engineering, beginning when he reports for duty and continuing until September 1, 1918, at a salary of eighteen hundred dollars ($1800) a year. (February 12, 1917). Randolph, J. R., Student Draftsman in the department of mechanical engineering, on one-half time, beginning when he reports for duty and continuing until July 1, 1917, at a salary of forty dollars ($40) a month. (February 7, 1917).
