Afternoon Session, September 23, 1915.

When the b.oard convened at the State Fair Grounds, in Springfield, on the afternoon of Thursday, September 23, 1915, the following members were present: Mr. Abbott, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Carr, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr.' Hoit, Mr. Ward, Miss Watson. President James and Prof. J. M. White, Supervising Architect, were present. The board adjourned to meet in the Trustees' Room, at the University, in Urbana, at 2.00 p. m., on Monday, September 27, 1915 at 2.00 p. m.

Adjourned Session, September 27, 1915.

Pursuant to the adjournment taken at the afternoon session of September 23, 1915, the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois met in the Trustees' Room, at the University, in Urbana, on Monday, September 27, 1915, at 2.00 p. m. The following members were present: Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Henrotin, Miss Watson. President James was present, and, also during a part of the session, Miss Martha J. Kyle, Acting Dean of Women, and Mr. H. D. Oberdorfer, Assistant to the Supervising Architect.

RECORDS OF COMMITTEE MEETINGS.

The Secretary presented for record the following minutes of meetings of the Executive Committee held on August 17 and 28, and September 7, 1915; also the minutes of a meeting of the Committee on Buildings and Grounds held on August 28, 1915; and also the minutes of meetings of the Committee on the College of Medicine held on August 17 and September 7, 1915.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING, AUGUST 17, 1915.

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held at Hotel La Salle, in Chicago, at 1.00 p. m., on Tuesday, August 17, 1915. Mr. W. L. Abbott, Chairman, and Mr. O. W. Hoit, member of the committee, and President James were present. The President of the University presented the following matters for consideration:

A P P O I N T M E N T OF DR. R. G. PEARCE.

(1) A recommendation that Dr. Roy G. Pearce. now at Western Reserve University, be appointed Assistant Professor of Physiology in the College of Medicine for three years beginning September 1, 1915, or as soon thereafter as he reports for duty, with salary at the rate of twenty-seven hundred and fifty dollars a year.

This recommendation was approved. SALARY OF PROF. J M. MATHEWS. .

(2) Owing to a clerical mistake in the budget Tpage 797] the salary of Assistant Prof. J. M. Mathews of the Department of Political Science was fixed at twenty-one hundred dollars a year. It was intended that the recommendation should be twenty-three hundred dollars a year for the term of his appointment. The salary of Dr. Mathews was fixed at twenty-three hundred dollars a year for the term of his appointment.

PURCHASE OF A U T O M O B I L E .

(3) A request from the College of Agriculture for the purchase from Agricultural Funds of a seven passenger automobile, at a cost of about fifteen hundred dollars, to be in charge of the Department, of Agricultural Extension and to be used for three purposes: '1. To transport members of the faculty who have University business to the South Farm and other distant points. 2. To facilitate the handling of visitors on the grounds. 3. To be available in case of necessity for other University purposes, all subject to the direction of the President of the University.

This request was granted and the corresponding appropriation made.
