amounting to $8,308.57, which lapsed under the rule of the board concerning the appropriation of balances on June 30, 1913, be reappropriated to the respective departments in the conduct of whose business the amounts were received.

On motion of Mr. Hoit, the lapsed balances in the College of Agriculture, amounting to one thousand six hundred sixty-five dollars and ninety, cents ($1,665.90),. and in the Agricultural Experiment Station, amounting to eight thousand three hundred eight dollars and fifty-seven cents ($8,308.57), were reappropriated to the respective departments in which they had been received. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Moore, Mr. Trevett, Miss. Watson; noes, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Dunne, Mr. Meeker.

ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION FOR EMERGENCY HOSPITAL.

(29) A recommendation that a supplementary appropriation of $1,500 be made to defray the expenses connected with the establishment and conduct of the emergency hospital and the measures which were taken in the scarlet fever situation.

On motion of Mr. Hoit, the sum of fifteen hundred dollars ($1,500), or so much thereof as may be necessary, was appropriated to defray the expenses of the emergency hospital. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Moore, Mr. Trevett, Miss Watson; noes, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Dunne, Mr. v Meeker.

ALLEY VACATED.

(30) A statement concerning the alley on the site of the.Education Building: The City Council of Urbana vacated an alley running through the proposed site of the School of Education Building on condition that the Board of Trustees provide a new alley running to the south., [See minutes of the meeting of March 10, 1913, page 723.] I recommend that the officers of the Board of Trustees be authorized to convey to the city of Urbana, for the use of the public as an alleyway, a strip of ground from the east side of Lot 8 and west side of Lot 9, in Block 55, in the Seminary Addition to the city of Urbana, of a uniform width of 16% feet, and extending from the north line of said lots to Springfield Avenue.

On motion of Mr. Moore, the oflicers of the board were authorized to convey the strip of ground described above to the city of Urbana. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Moore, Mr. Trevett, Miss Watson; noes, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Dunne, Mr. Meeker.

R E C O M M E N D A T I O N S OF T H E UNIVERSITY SENATE.

(31) The following recommendations of the University Senate:

CERAMICS T R A N S F E R R E D TO T H E C O L L E G E OF ENGINEERING.

.(a) A recommendation that the administration of the Courses in Ceramics be transferred, as soon as may be convenient, from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to the College of Engineering.

On the recommendation of President James and on motion of Mr. Hoit, the President of the University was authorized to transfer the administration of the Courses in Ceramics to the College of Engineering.

D E G R E E OF BACHELOR OF SCIENCE I N T H E COLLEGE MEDICINE. OF

((b) A recommendation that the faculty of the junior college of the College of Medicine be authorized to recommend as candidates for the Degree of Bachelor of Science, those students who offer two years of acceptable college work for admission to the College of Medicine and complete the two years of scientific work in medical subjects and subjects preparatory to medicine which are offered in the junior college; with the understanding that the same students, upon the completion of the two additional years in clinical work offered in the senior college, may be recommended by the faculty of the senior college for the Degree of Doctor of Medicine.

On the recommendation of President James and on motion of Mrs. Evans, authority was granted the junior college of the College of Medicine to recommend candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Science as requested.
