Meeting of August 26, 1913.

A special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held in the Blackstone Hotel, in the city of Chicago, at 12 M., on Tuesday, August 26, 1913, pursuant to the following notice which was sent out by the secretary on August 18, 1913: Upon the call of the president, Mr. W. L. Abbott, a special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University will be held in the Blackstone Hotel, in the city of Chicago, on Tuesday, August 26, 1913, beginning at 12 :00 M.,. to consider such matters as the committees of the board and the President O the University f may submit and such other matters as may be duly presented. « When the board convened, the following members were present: Mr. Abbott, Mrs, Evans, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Hoit, Miss Watson.

CONSUMMATION

OF LAND PURCHASE DELAYED.

President Abbott reported that he had been advised by Governor Dunne that protests had been made in regard to the purchase of land ordered by the board at its meeting of July 23 (pp. 606 and- 625), and had been requested by the Governor to delay the consummation of this purchase until it could be further considered, and that accordingly he had requested the State Auditor to draw no warrants for this purchase until further notice.

SPECIAL COMMITTEE TO CONSIDER LAND PURCHASE.

President Abbott stated that he proposed to appoint a special committee for the further consideration of this land purchase, this committee to consist of the Governor, the President of the Board of Trustees, and the Chairman of the Finance Committee of the board. An informal poll of the members present showed that all of them approved of this proposed procedure.

REPORT OF T H E COMMITTEE ON STUDENT'S W E L F A R E : APPROPRIATION FOR SYSTEM OF FRESHMAN ADVISERS.

Mrs. Evans, as Chairman of the Committee on Students' Welfare, reported that this committee had approved the request of Dr. K. C. Babcock, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, for an appropriation of eighteen hundred dollars ($1800) to provide for a system of freshman advisers to be tried during the coming year; this request having been referred to the Committee on Students' Welfare at the meeting of July 23, 1913 (page 602), with power to act. The board adjourned to meet in the office of the Governor, at Springfield, at 10 A.M., on Saturday, September 6, 1913.
