RESIGNATION OF PROFESSOR HUGH P. BAKER. (6) A communication from Mr. Hugh P. Baker, recently appointed professor of Forestry, resigning his position on the ground, that he has been offered the headship of the new School of Forestry at Syracuse, New York. Professor Baker's resignation was accepted. LAND FOR EXPERIMENTAL PURPOSES. (7) A letter from Dr. C. G. Hopkins, professor of Agronomy, enclosing two deeds of land for experiment fields; one from Mrs. E. Angela Scully, widow of the late Lord Scully, for twenty acres of land situated one-half mile east of Hartsburg, in Logan county; the other from Capt. John W. Kitchell and wife, for 29.31 acres immediately north of the city of Pana, 111. Dr. Hopkins' letter was accompanied by the recommendation of Dr. Eugene Davenport, dean of the College of Agriculture, that these conveyances be accepted, and that the proper' acknowledgements be made to the conveyors. I t was voted t o refer Dr. Hopkins's letter with Dean Davenport's recommendation and the two deeds to the Committee on Agriculture for consideration and report. APPROVAL OF PERSONS TO HAVE CHARGE OF MAJOR WORK IN THE GRADUATE SCHOOL. (8) A communication from Dr. David Kinley, dean of the Graduate School, transmitting the recommendation of the executive faculty of the Graduate School in favor of the adoption of the following rule: "No person may take charge of the major work of candidates for an advanced degree without permission of the executive faculty of the Graduate School and the approval of the president of the University." I t was voted to approve this rule. APPROPRIATION FOR FELLOWSHIPS AND SCHOLARSHIPS. (9) A request from Dr. David Kinley, dean of the Graduate School, that the usual appropriations of $20,000.00 from the Graduate School fund, and $2,400.00 from the general University funds, be made for fellowships and scholarships. I n accordance with this recommendation, it was voted to appropriate the sum of $20,000.00 from the Graduate School fund, and $2,400.00 from the general University funds, for fellowships and scholarships for the academic year 1912-1913; and to authorize the president of the
