158 UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS. [June 22 ADDITION TO WOMAN'S BUILDING—LOCATION AND PLAN. Professor James M. White, supervising architect, then presented his views as to the location and plan of the addition to the Woman's building, for which the Forty-seventh General Assembly granted the sum of one hundred and twenty-five thousand dollars. Professor White explained that he would propose an addition immediately to the east of the present building, uniting with it in such a way as to make a single building around a court. In this building it is hoped to find additional space for the department of domestic science, additional space for the department of physical culture for women, some additional music rooms for practice, similar to those in the top story of the south wing of the present building, and some rooms for the women's literary societies. The east front of the building would be on a line with the east front of Lincoln Hall. ' It was moved that the general suggestions of the supervising architect in regard to the addition to the Woman's building, including its location, be approved by the board, and that the supervising architect be directed to prepare plans indicating in a general way what it is proposed to do, to be submitted for the consideration and approval of the board. This motion was passed by the following vote: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Bahrenburg, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Grout, Mr. Hatch, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Moore; noes, none; absent, Mr. Anthony, Mr. Blair, Mr. Deneen, Mr. Meeker. The comptroller was authorized to purchase the lots in question (for description of these lots, see page 146), and an appropriation of eighteen thousand one hundred dollars ($18,100.00) was made for this purpose. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Bahrenburg,. Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Grout, Mr. Hatch, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Moore; noes, none; absent, Mr. Anthony, Mr. Blair, Mr. Deneen, Mr. Meeker. President James presented a letter from Miss Margaret Conkle in regard to her property on Mathews av., east of the power plant; also, a letter from Mr. T. A. Ferguson, making an offer on his entire property lying on both sides of Silver creek. I t was moved that the comptroller be authorized to obtain options at a reasonable rate on the lots on which options have not yet been secured in the tract bounded by Mathews av., the Illinois Traction System tracks, Goodwin av. and Silver creek; and that, if options cannot be obtained on this property at a reasonable rate, the University counsel
