upon his admission to the University; Dean Clark has estimated that three thousand copies, a part of them bound, can be obtained for the sum of $326.00, and has agreed to prepare copy for the book, and to see it through the press. This request was approved, and an appropriation of three hundred twenty-six dollars ($326.00), 6r so much thereof as may be necessary, was made for the purpose; the vote being as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Bahrenburg, Mrs. Bnsey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Grout, Mr. Hatch, Mr. Moore; noes, none; absent, Mr. Anthony, Mr. Blair, Mr. Deneen, Mr. Meeker.

PROFESSORSHIP OF ROMANCE LANGUAGES.

5. A recommendation that Dr. John G. Gerig.of Columbia University, be appointed (1) professor of Romance languages in the University, at a salary of thirty-five hundred dollars ($3,500.00) per annum, work and salary to begin Sept. 1, 1911, and (2) head of the Department of Romance languages for the year 1911-1912. This recommendation was approved, and the. president was authorized to make the appointment; the vote being as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Bahrenburg, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Grout,. Mr. Hatch, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Moore; , noes, none; absent, Mr. Anthony, Mr. Blair, Mr. Deneen, Mr. Meeker. ASSISTANT PROFESSORSHIP OF ROMANCE LANGUAGES. 6. A recommendation that Dr. Jean Beck of Vienna, Austria, be appointed assistant professor of Romance languages for three years beginning Sept. 1, 1911, at a salary of two thousand dollars ($2,000.00) per annum; that a special appropriation of five hundred dollars ($500.00) be made for the purchase of books and manuscripts in the special department in which Dr. Beck will work; and that an allowance of two hundred fifty dollars ($250.0$) be made, to him for moving expenses. These recommendations were approved by the following vote: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Bahrenburg, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Grout, Mr. Hatch, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Moore; noes, none; absent, Mr. Anthony, Mr. Blair, Mr. Deneen, Mr. Meeker.

President Abbott presented the minutes of a meeting of the Executive Committee of the board held in Chicago on May 2, 1 9 1 1 : The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois met at the Union League Club in the city of Chicago on Tuesday, May 2, 1911. There were present Messrs. William L. Abbott and Fred L. Hatch, members of the committee,, and President James. President James presented the following matters for consideration: APPOINTMENT OF DR.
