opinion; that he is free to express his opinions on all matters, of University administration and educational policy to his colleagues and to the President without interference and without fear that it will endanger his position. Resolved, That we hereby express our confidence in the President of the University and our conviction that he administers his high office as a colleague rather than as a superior. Resolved, That in the opinion of the University Senate the course of the administration has been such as to stimulate to a marked degree the higher scientific and educational interests of the University. Resolved, That as members of the faculty we assure the President of our loyal and hearty support in the varied and difficult responsibilities imposed upon him as the executive head of this University.

. Secretary of the University Senate. Mrs. Alexander moved to lay this on the table, and the motion was lost. The resolutions were then adopted by the following vote: Yeas, Messrs. Madden, Blair, Abbott, Davison, Lehman, Grout and Meeker;, nays, Mr. Hatch and Mrs. Alexander, Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Busey; absent, Governor Deneen. Mr. Hatch explained his vote as follows: I have voted against these resolutions— 1. Because there has been whitewash enough applied in this case. 2. The matter has been previously settled by the Board. 3. I wish to protect the administration from cause for more newspaper notoriety.

The special committee appointed to complete an agreement with the Urbana and Champaign Eailway,- Gas and Electric Company concerning the crossing of the south campus reported as follows:

URBANA, IUL., Dec. 1, 1908L

To the Board of Trustees: The Board of Trustees on July 20, 1907, authorized the undersigned committee to complete an agreement with the Champaign and Urbana Railway, Gas and Electric Company regarding the crossing of the campus by a single track from California to Daniel street. After long negotiations and careful examination we have finally reached an agreement which is herewith submitted to the Board of Trustees for its approval. It was drafted Dec. 1, 1908, and reads as follows: Dec. 1, 1908. THIS INDENTURE made this .day of December, 1908, between the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois for and in behalf of the University of Illinois of the first part, hereinafter referred to as Trustees, and the Urbana and Champaign Railway, Gas and Electric Company, party of the second part, hereinafter referred to as Company. WITNESSETH, That in consideration of the agreement of the Company hereinafter contained, the Trustees hereby grant to the Company for a. period of twenty (20) -years, permission to construct, maintain and operate a single-track electric railway across the south campus of the University, on the line of Daniel street extended easterly across the campus, and curving northward at Wright street, and south at Matthews avenue, with the center of the railway track coinciding with a center line described as follows: "Starting from the intersection of Oregon street and Matthews avenue, the center line shall curve to the north on Matthews avenue, and run north in the west park way of Matthews avenue at a distance of not more than
