Mrs. Evans moved the adoption of the report. After a statement by President James, the motion was amended to approve all the recommendations except the one relating to the. Ceramics building. The motion as amended was adopted by the following vote: Yeas, Messrs. Abbott, Blair, Crebs, Davison, Hatch, Meeker and Mrs. Bahrenburg and Mrs. E v a n s ; nays, n o n e ; absent, Governor Deneen, Messrs. Grout and Moore, and Mrs. Busey.

MATTERS P R E S E N T E D BY P R E S I D E N T J A M E S .

The president of the University presented the following matters for consideration: 1. A recommendation that Mr. H'. H. Stoek, Editor of Mines and Minerals* he appointed professor of Mining Engineering in the University of Illinois; at a salary of four thousand dollars ($4,000.00) a year, service and pay to begin at such.time after Sept. 1, 1909, as may suit the convenience of Mr. Stoek. By the following vote the recommendation was adopted: Yeas, Messrs. Abbott, Blair, Crebs, Davison, Hatch, Meeker and Mrs. Bahrenbtirg and Mrs. E v a n s ; nays, n o n e ; absent, Governor Deneen, Messrs. Grout and Moore and Mrs. Busey. 2. . A recommendation that the formal opening of the Laboratory of Physics be held on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 26 and 27, 1909. Dr. Davison moved that the dedication ceremony be held as recommended, and that an appropriation of five hundred dollars ($500) be made to cover the expenses. Mrs. Bahrenbnrg offered as an amendment t h a t Dean Goss be asked to make a more definite statement of the exercises and the cost of the same. The amendment was lost. The original motion prevailed by the following vote: Yeas, -Messrs. Abbott, Blair, Crebs, Davison, Hatch^ Meeker and Mrs. Bahrenburg and Mrs. E v a n s ; nays, n o n e ; absent, Governor Deneen, Messrs.. Grout and Moore and Mrs. Busey. 3. A recommendation that the President of the University be authorized to nominate a professor of Mechanical Engineering and head of the department of Mechanical Engineering to succeed Mr. L. P. Breckenridge, at a. salary of four thousand dollars ($4,000.00) a year, work and salary to begin, as soon as a suitable candidate may be found. Further, that the President of the University be authorized to nominate a, professor of Electrical Engineering andjiead of the Department of Electrical Engineering at a salary of four thousand dollars ($4,000.00) .a year, work, and salary to begin as soon as a suitable candidate may be found. The recommendation was approved by the following vote: Yeas^ Messrs. Abbott, Blair, Crebs, Davison, Hatch, Meeker and Mrs. Bahrenburg and Mrs. E v a n s ; nays, n o n e ; absent, Governor Deneen, Messrs. Grout and Moore and Mrs. Busey. 4. A communication from the city of Urbana asking whether the University will consider a proposition looking to the furnishing of a site and building for a fire department station in the western portion of the city of Urbana, on condition that the city of Urbana will equip, or assist in equipping the same.
