iPourih—Analyses of water from streams, wells or springs, collected by *or for the Water Survey, for the study of the normal waters of a section x>f the State or of a geological stratum.. Analyses not covered by sections one to four should be made in the laboratory of the State Water Survey only when paid for by the parties interested. Fees for such work should be credited to the Water Survey funds and used for the maintenance of the work of the Survey. Very respectfully yours,

Director, State Water Survey. President James's bill, covering the expenses of his European trip for inspection of veterinary colleges in Europe, was received and referred to the Finance Committee on motion of Mr. Lehman.

FIRE INSPECTION.

Mr. Abbott, having asked Mr. Blair to take the chair for the time being, made a statement with regard to the report of the person employed to make a fire inspection of the University buildings, and recommended a n appropriation of $3,000, or so much thereof as might be needed, for ^the purchase of an electric fire patrol wagon. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Yeas, Messrs. Abbott, jBlair, Crebs, Grout, Lehman and Meeker, and Mrs. Alexander, Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Busey; nays, none; absent, Governor Deneen and Dr. ^Davison.

LEGISLATIVE ASKINGS.

T h e Committee on Legislative Askings made the following report:

' ;* CHICAGO, Jan. 15, 1909.

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois: Your Committee on Legislative Askings recommends that the Board of Trustees ask of the General Assembly appropriations as indicated in the bills printed below, namely: For general fund ; $2,163,400 For building fund ;..... 1,000,000 ' Your committee also approves the agricultural bill, namely: Agricultural College and Experiment Station $757,300 Respectfully submitted,

T h e report was considered part by part. An amendment, offered by Mrs. Busey, putting the item with regard to University Hall first in the list of buildings asked for, was adopted/by the following vote: Yeas, Messrs. Abbott, Blair, Crebs x Lehman, and Mrs. Alexander, Mrs. Evans and Mr^. Busey; nays, none; absent, Governor ( Deneen and Messrs.. Davison, Grout, Hatch and Meeker. By general consent the item was changed to read: "Addition to University Hall (or a new University Hall) $250,000.", I t was understood; however, t h a t the amount of $200,000 for agricultural buildings might be changed to the agricultural bill if the advisory ^boards of the several agricultural departments so desired.
