dollar and fifty-five cents" per ton on cars or for * 'one dollar and sixty cents'' in the receiving hopper of the coal bunkers. Said coal to be delivered at the option of the University from the Grape Creek mines of the Kelley Coal Co., or from the Oakwood mine of the Oakwood Coal Co. Should you find it expedient to let a portion of the contract to separate parties, I agree to furnish one-third, one-half or two-thirds of the amount needed at the price quoted. (This proposition made contingent upon permission of University to construct such switch tracks as are mentioned as necessary.) I offer" to furnish for the University of Illinois, as needed by it for light, heat, and power purposes, between Sept. 1,1906, and Aug. 31,1907, on board cars in Urbana, fifteen thousand (15,000) tons, more or less, of the best Illinois unwashed coal, to be of the size known as " p e a " coal, screened free from all large lumps, dust and dirt, for one dollar and fifty cents ($1.50) per ton. Hope Cemetery Association should be given t h e privilege of t a k i n g w a t e r from t h e University m a i n s on condition t h a t t h e y furnish a satisfactory w a t e r m e t e r , p a y t h e expense of m a k i n g t h e connection, a n d p a y for t h e w a t e r used a t t h e r e g u l a r city r a t e s . T h i s privilege to be g r a n t e d subject to t h e conditions s t a t e d in t h e i r p e t i t i o n of J u n e 20th, 1906: T h e w a t e r pipe c o n n e c t i n g to t h e University m a i n s h a l l n o t be l a r g e r t h a n 1% inch. T h i s permission also t o b e r e v o k a b l e a t a n y t i m e b y t h e University. A u g u s t 7th, t h e B u i l d i n g s a n d Grounds Committee m e t in t h e L i b r a r y buildi n g a n d a w a r d e d t h e coal c o n t r a c t t o J. D. W h i t e for Oakwood or Westville pea coal, w h i c h w o u l d pass over a % - i n e h screen a n d t h r o u g h a 1 ^ inch screen, w i t h t h e privilege of t a k i n g one-half t h e r e q u i r e d supply of coal in 1% inch screenings. T h e price of t h e s e t w o k i n d s of coal delivered in t h e receiving h o p p e r a t t h e University boiler room is $1.50 per t o n for pea a n d n u t , a n d $1.25 p e r t o n for screenings. T h e c o n t r a c t o r t o furnish a satisfactory b o n d in t h e sum of $6,000.00 for t h e fulfillment of h i s c o n t r a c t . T h e c o n t r a c t w i l l also be g u a r a n t e e d b y t h e Illinois T r a c t i o n Company, w h o a r e to h a v e t h e privilege of i n s t a l l i n g a n d m a i n t a i n i n g d u r i n g t h e life of t h e c o n t r a c t a s w i t c h from t h e i r t r a c k t o t h e University boiler room. . T h e committee a u t h o r i z e d a n e x p e n d i t u r e of $600.00 for r e p a i r i n g , decorati n g a n d v e n t i l a t i n g M o r r o w H a l l in t h e A g r i c u l t u r a l b u i l d i n g to be paid for from a n y funds of t h e A g r i c u l t u r a l D e p a r t m e n t w h i c h t h e comptroller m a y approve.. T h e w o r k to be in c h a r g e of Prof. J. M; W h i t e . T h e c o m m i t t e e authorized a n e x p e n d i t u r e of $250.00 for t h e i n s t a l l a t i o n of t w o s t a n d p i p e s in t h e Woman's b u i l d i n g , and six lines of hose. Also one s t a n d pipe a n d t w o lines of hose in t h e Mechanical l a b o r a t o r y . T h e architect, t o g e t h e r w i t h t h e p u r c h a s i n g a g e n t , a r e a u t h o r i z e d t o provide a n d install the apparatus. Yours very t r u l y ,

The report of the action of the committee with regard to coal contract for the year 1906-1907 and water for Mount Hope Cemetery was received for record. The expenditures on Morrow Hall and for stand-pipes and hose in the Woman's building and Mechanical laboratory were also approved.

COMMITTEE ON LEGISLATIVE ASKINGS.

I t was voted that the president appoint a Committee on Legislative Askings, the president of the board to be a member of the committee. The following were appointed: Messrs. Kerrick and Abbott, Mrs. Busey, and Messrs. Davison and Bullard.
