The President of the University submitted also the following matters for consideration:

1. I recommend t h a t t h e degree of Doctor of L a w s be conferred a t comm e n c e m e n t on H i s Excellency W u Ting-fang, His I m p e r i a l Chinese Majesty's E n v o y E x t r a o r d i n a r y a n d Minister P l e n i p o t e n t i a r y t o t h e U n i t e d States of America.

On motion of Mrs. Evans it was voted that the degree be conferred.

2. T h e r e q u e s t is m a d e for free t u i t i o n a t t h e S u m m e r Session for Filipinos b r o u g h t t o t h i s c o u n t r y b y t h e g o v e r n m e n t for education.

The request was granted on motion of Mr. Hatch:

R e c o m m e n d a t i o n s from t h e Dean of t h e College of A g r i c u l t u r e : (a) T h a t Mr. Horace F a i r c h i l d Major be a p p o i n t e d a s s i s t a n t in landscape g a r d e n i n g in t h e College of A g r i c u l t u r e for one y e a r b e g i n n i n g J u l y 1, 1908, a t a s a l a r y of e i g h t h u n d r e d a n d forty dollars for t w e l v e m o n t h s . (b) T h a t Mr. W a l t e r Lee Gaines be a p p o i n t e d a s s i s t a n t in d a i r y h u s b a n d r y in t h e A g r i c u l t u r a l E x p e r i m e n t S t a t i o n for t h e y e a r b e g i n n i n g J u l y 12, 1908, a t a s a l a r y of e i g h t h u n d r e d a n d forty dollars for t w e l v e m o n t h s . Voted on motion of Mr. Hatch that said appointments be made.

USE OF DYNAMOMETER CAR. 4. A r e c o m m e n d a t i o n from t h e Dean of t h e College of E n g i n e e r i n g t h a t t h e d e p a r t m e n t of r a i l w a y engineering, b e a u t h o r i z e d to g r a n t t h e use of its d y n a m o m e t e r car d u r i n g t h e s u m m e r vacation to r a i l w a y companies desiring it, a n d t h a t t h e d e p a r t m e n t be a u t h o r i z e d to receive t h e money on account of t h e University for t h e use of said car, said m o n e y to b e paid to t h e Compt r o l l e r of t h e U n i v e r s i t y . All uses of t h e car a n d all accounts g r o w i n g out of i t s use to b e subject to t h e a p p r o v a l of t h e Dean of t h e College of E n g i n e e r i n g .

Voted on motion of Mrs. Busey that said recommendation be approved.

5. A r e c o m m e n d a t i o n from t h e Dean of t h e College of L i t e r a t u r e a n d A r t s t h a t M r . J o e l R. Moore b e a p p o i n t e d a s s i s t a n t i n economics a t a r e m u n e r a t i o n of $450 for t h e acadamic year, 1908-9, w o r k and s a l a r y to b e g i n Sept e m b e r 1, 1908.

Voted on motion of Mrs. Busey that said recomimendation be approved.

ACOUSTICS OF A U D I T O R I U M 6. A r e q u e s t from Professor Carman, approved b y t h e Supervising Architect, for a n a p p r o p r i a t i o n of $250 for t h e p u r p o s e of m a k i n g a n i n v e s t i g a t i o n i n t o t h e acoustics of t h e a u d i t o r i u m .
