Voted on motion of Mr. Lehman that said recommendation be approved.

FILLING VACANCIES.

Voted on motion of Mr. Madden that the President of the University be given authority to fill such vacancies on the staff of the University as may occur between now and the opening of the academic year 1908-09.

DR. KEMP'S COMMUNICATIONS; EESIGNATION.

Mr. Lehman offered for adoption the following:

WHKBEAS, Dr. George T. Kemp, Professor of Physiology in the University of Illinois, has addressed certain communications to the Board of Trustees of the University and to the President of the University in which he has set forth at length certain complaints and grievances as to the treatment accorded him by the administration of the University, and WHEREAS, the Board of Tsustees have given due and ample consideration to this matter at the last three sessions held on different days over an interval of more than six weeks, and WHEREAS, the said Board of Trustees have given Prof essor Kemp a personal hearing at two distinct sessions of the Board; Therefore,'Be it voted that said Board of Trustees do not recognize that Professor Kemp has any real cause for grievance against the administration of the University.

After the discussion Mrs. Evans moved that further consideration of this motion be postponed to some future meeting when all members of the board should be present. This motion was lost by the following vote: Yeas, Mr. Hatch and Mrs. Evans, and Mrs. Busey; nays, Messrs. Madden, Blair, Abbott, Davison and Lehman; absent, Governor Deneen and Mrs. Alexander. The original motion was then adopted by the following vote: Yeas, Messrs. Madden, Blair, Abbott, Davison and Lehman; nays, Mr. Hatch, Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Busey; absent, Governor Deneen and Mrs. Alexander. Dr. Davison offered the following, which was adopted:

WHEREAS, Dr. G. T. Kemp has presented to the Board of Trustees his * resignation of the Professorship of Physiology in the University to take effect Sept. 1, 1908; therefore Resolved, That the resignation be accepted.

TRANSFER OF THE JOURNAL OF ENGLISH AND GERMANIC PHILOLOGY.

The secretary presented the following transfer by Mrs. Eleanor G. Karsten of the Journal of English and Germianic Philology to> the University of Illinois, and it was ordered that the transfer be printed in the minutes and filed by the secretary:

For the sum of one dollar, in hand received, and other good and valuable consideration, I, Eleanor G. Karsten, do hereby sell, convey and assign to the University of Illinois all my rights, claims and title in and to the publication known as the Journal of Oermanic Philology, and later as the Journal of English and Germanic Philology, founded and hitherto published by my husband, the late Gustaf E. Karsten, including therein all moneys and credits now in my hands to the account of said Journal on all numbers subsequent to volume VI; all moneys and credits now or in the future due for
