Meeting of January 25, 1908.

A special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held at the Palmer House in Chicago, January 25, 1908, pursuant to the following notice which was sent out by the secretary, January 16, 1908:

Upon t h e call of t h e P r e s i d e n t , Mr. W. L. A b b o t t , t h e r e w i l l be a special m e e t i n g of t h e Board of T r u s t e e s of t h e University of Illinois a t t h e P a l m e r House in Chicago, a t 9:00 o'clock a. m., S a t u r d a y , J a n u a r y 25, 1908, to consider such subjects as m a y be duly presented.

When the board met pursuant to this call the following members were present: Messrs. Abbott, Blair, Davison, Hatch, Madden and Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Alexander and Mrs. Busey; absent, Governor Deneen and Mr. Lehman. President James was present.

MATTERS PRESENTED BY PRESIDENT JAMES.

The president submitted the following matters for consideration:

1. T h e list of leases t h u s far m a d e on behalf of t h e University b y Professors H o p k i n s a n d Blair.

Voted that an abstract of said leases be printed in the minutes of the board. [For subsequent action see p. 420.]

2. A r e q u e s t from t h e a c t i n g l i b r a r i a n for a n addition to t h e l i b r a r y staff for t h e r e s t of t h e p r e s e n t y e a r as follows: S^P--"^ One s t u d e n t p a g i n g a s s i s t a n t for sixteen h o u r s a w e e k a t t e n dollars a m o n t h for e i g h t m o n t h s from F e b r u a r y 1, 1908; t w o s t u d e n t shelf a s s i s t a n t s on half t i m e , t w e n t y - f o u r h o u r s a week, a t t w e n t y dollars each a m o n t h , for six m o n t h s , from F e b r u a r y 1, 1908; one order a s s i s t a n t for t y p i n g a n d bookk e e p i n g a t fifty dollars a m o n t h for e i g h t m o n t h s from F e b r u a r y 1, 1908; one c a t a l o g u e r t o h e l p on c u r r e n t w o r k , a t s i x t y dollars a m o n t h for e i g h t m o n t h s from F e b r u a r y 1, 1908; one c a t a l o g u e r for t h e D i t t e n b e r g e r l i b r a r y a t seventyfive d o l l a r s a m o n t h for e i g h t m o n t h s from F e b r u a r y 1, 1908.

Voted on motion of Mr. Blair that the appointment of said members of the library staff at the remuneration indicated be approved.

3. A r e q u e s t from t h e h e a d of t h e d e p a r t m e n t of domestic science for a u t h o r i z a t i o n to employ Miss P i n c o m b from F e b r u a r y 1st, for h e r full t i m e a t a r e m u n e r a t i o n of seventy-five dollars ($75) per m o n t h , u n t i l J u l y 1st; f u r t h e r t h a t Miss M o r r o w be given additionol w o r k from F e b r u a r y 1st a n d receive a d d i t i o n a l r e m u n e r a t i o n of t e n dollars'($10) a m o n t h from F e b r u a r y 1st t o J u l y 1st; third, t h a t Miss Caroline Busey b e a p p o i n t e d l a b o r a t o r y a s s i s t a n t for four m o n t h s from F e b r u a r y 1st a t a salary of thirty-five dollars ($35) a month.
