tons, more or less, of Illinois coal for the University of Illinois. The coal will be of the size known as pea coal, and shall be delivered between September 1, 1907, and August 31, 1908, as needed by the University for heating, lighting, and power purposes. Bids for one-half or a third or two-thirds of the whole, more or less, will be entertained. If such fractional proposals added together will equal the amount of coal wanted, such proposals will be acceptable to the University, and separate contracts will be made with the several companies for the amount of their proposals. Quality, price, and ability to fulfill the contract will be considered in awarding the contracts. A bond to the amount of one-fourth of the contract will be required of the successful bidder or bidders conditioned on the faithful performance of the contract. Bids will be received (a) for coal delivered on track at Urbana or Champaign and (b) for coal delivered in the University Boiler House. The University reserves the privilege of buying, outside of this contract, up to 1,000 tons of coal for experimental purposes. The right is reserved to reject any and all proposals. Proposals are to be sent to W. L. Abbott, Room 63, 139 Adams street,. Chicago, and shall be sealed in,,an innner envelope marked "Proposals for coal for the University of lllinois. Further infrmation may be obtained from W. L. Abbott, at the above address, or James M. White, 300 Engineering Hall, Urbana.

Chairman of Committee. August 15th the committee met at No. 139 Adams street, Chicago, and opened the bids which had been received in response to the advertisement. They were as follows: Crear, Clinch & Co., 1% in. Franklin Co*, screenings delivered in Champaign $1.50 Danville Consumers Coal Co., 1% in. Danville screenings delivered in % University Boiler House ' 1.45 Sage & Co., 1% in. Linton Screenings delivered in Urbana 1.60 Christian Co. Coal Co., VA in. Taylorville screenings delivered in Urbana 122 Also a bid was received from Pearl Adams for hauling coal from railroad team tracks to the boiler room for the following prices: First—From cars of the Wabash or Big Four at Station in the City of Urbana at the rate of 17c per ton. Second—From cars of the Wabash or Big Four at Station in the City of Champaign at the rate of 19c per ton. Third—From the cars of the Illinois Central at Station in Champaign City at the rate of 18c per ton. The committee deferred further consideration of these bids until August 21. August 21st the committee met and decided to award the coal contract to the Christian County Coal Company, and September 2d a contract was closed with this company to furnish coal to the University for the year beginning September 2, 1907. This contract with bond for $5,000.00 conditioned upon a fulfillment of the contract, also bearing date September 2d, has been duly signed and filed with the secretary. A contract also has been made with Pearl Adams to haul the coal, and the contract with bond of $1,000 has been duly signed and filed with the secretary. Respectfully submitted,
